For a month, I tried all of the hot breakfast options at my local Starbucks and evaluated them from worst to best in terms of taste and quality. Although the bacon, Gouda, and egg sandwich was tasty, it fell short of my expectations. After many years of eating on the go, I’ve come to the conclusion that Starbucks is the best spot to get a quick breakfast in the morning. Insider contributor Savanna Swain-Wilson I had great hopes for this sandwich because it hadthe fancy-sounding term “artisan” in the description, but sadly, the reality didn’t match up to my expectations. My largest difficulty, by far, was the bread. This sandwich, in contrast to the other sandwiches on the menu, was served on a square-cut ciabatta bread that almost completely swallowed the sandwich’s ingredients. It also didn’t help that the bacon was mediocre.
Sadly, the egg component didn’t fare any better.
On the whole, this rather mediocre sandwich was saved by the gooey, melted Gouda cheese that topped it off perfectly.
Given the fact that there are other, superior bacon alternatives available on the menu, I don’t anticipate having this one again in the future.

Reduced-fat turkey bacon and cage-free egg-white sandwich — $3.95
The sandwich turned out to be far better than I had anticipated. Insider contributor Savanna Swain-Wilson This low-fat dish turned out to be far better than I had anticipated. Underneath the turkey bacon, which had a mildly salty flavor, a thin slice of white cheddar melted into a delicate layer of airy egg whites, creating a light and airy texture. This sandwich, however, fell short due to the dry whole-wheat muffin that was used. I get that this is intended to be a “healthy choice” on the menu, but I’d much prefer have the contents wrapped in a tortilla, which would most likely have been less dry in this case.
If anything, it deserves to be recognized for being one of the most affordable sandwiches on the menu, coming in at only $3.95 per sandwich.
Sausage, egg, and cheddar sandwich — $3.75
A solid but not outstanding lunch was the sausage, cheddar, and egg sandwich. Insider’s Savanna Swain-Wilson reports on a juicy, flavorful sausage patty. Check. What about a big serving of melted cheddar? Check. A scrambled-egg patty with a fluffy center? Check. All of the components for a good sausage breakfast sandwich were present in this sandwich. Aside from that, it was virtually indistinguishable from any other sausage sandwich that I could have purchased from a fast-food restaurant. It kept me satisfied for several hours, but I’d classify it as more of a backup plan (in the event that they’re out of the item you really want) than a go-to.
Spicy chorizo, Monterey Jack, and egg sandwich — $4.95
With a dash of spicy sauce on top, the sandwich was even better. Insider contributor Savanna Swain-Wilson Several layers of chorizo sausage, fried egg, and Monterey Jack cheese are sandwiched together in the Starbucks chorizo and egg sandwich. With its herbed potatoes, the herbed potato bun was a welcome change from the traditional English muffin that most meaty breakfast sandwiches are made on. It was one of my favorite bread alternatives since it was both crunchy on the exterior and buttery on the inside.
The fried egg features caramelized onions, according to the product description, but I couldn’t detect any of them.
My sandwich, I believe, had a strong peppery flavor that overpowered the rest of the sandwich.
