Club Sandwich (Turkey, Ham, Bacon)

A club sandwich is a tasty deli staple that is really simple to create at your own convenience. As a result, I’m going to share my very simple club sandwich recipe with you all. My summer of no-cook meals is still going strong! As a kid, I used to love getting a traditional club sandwich from the deli, and it was always one of my favorite deli orders growing up. I recall going to Chappy’s Deli in Montgomery, Alabama, where I grew up, and getting a club sandwich. Are there any Chappy’s supporters in the audience?

As a result, it completely reminds me of summer.

You can absolutely pass this off as dinner during the hot months.

What to serve with a club sandwich

When serving this dinner, consider serving it with a side of conventional potato salad, Greek potato salad, air fryer French fries, or baked sweet potato fries to give it an additional kick. Alternatively, if you’re in the mood for something chilled and no-cook, try a side of cool watermelon chunks.

How to make a club sandwich

Begin with the most delectable ingredients you can find and work your way up from there. Trader Joe’s is my go-to grocery store for everything. As a result, the majority of my components came from there. Pro tip: I also make use of the pre-cooked bacon from Trader Joe’s (not pictured). I did put it in the toaster oven for a minute to crisp it up a bit. Every grocery shop, it seems, has their own version of this quick cut. Tip 2: I toast the bread and then set it aside to cool for a couple of minutes before using it.

  1. If you assemble your sandwich on boiling hot bread, the lettuce will get limp.
  2. But!
  3. Okay, next I apply mayonnaise on the chilled sourdough bread and begin constructing my club sandwich.
  4. Place one of the pieces of bread, mayo side down, on top of the other slices of bread.

Place the final piece of bread, mayo side down, on top of the other pieces of bread. Then, using a well-sharpened knife, cut the mixture into triangles, using toothpicks to hold everything in place while you cut.

Serving tips

Because I didn’t have any of the fancy toothpicks, I just used regular toothpicks. If you want to be fancy, go ahead and use them! Then! Simply turn everything on its side so that all of the lovely layers are visible to improve the aesthetic appeal of your club sandwich. ‘Glory to God!’ It’s time to stuff yourself! I hope you enjoy this straightforward recipe.

Club Sandwich (Turkey, Ham, Bacon)

A club sandwich is a delectable deli staple that is simple to create at home on your own time. On wheat bread, turkey, ham, bacon, Colby jack cheese, lettuce, tomato, and mayonnaise are served. Preparation time: 10 minutes 2 minutes for the toast Time allotted: 12 minutes Servings2Calories452kcal

  • 3 slices whole wheat bread (or bread of choice)
  • 2 tablespoons mayo (I recommend Duke’s, Hellmann’s, or Trader Joe’s)
  • Lettuce
  • Tomato slices
  • Salt and pepper to taste (on the tomatoes)
  • 2ounces deli ham
  • 2ounces turkey
  • 2 slices bacon cooked
  • 1 slice Colby jack cheese (or cheese of choice – cheddar and Swiss work great too)
  • 3 slices whole wheat bread (or bread of choice).
  1. If you want to toast your bread, do so now and set it aside to cool for a few minutes. This helps to prevent lettuce from becoming wilted. Mayonnaise should be spread on the three slices of cooled bread. Place your lettuce and tomato on one slice of bread. Don’t be afraid to season the tomatoes with a little salt and pepper. Place a second piece of bread on top of the sandwich, mayo side down. Afterwards, spread a little extra mayonnaise on the top of that slice
  2. Afterwards, arrange your meat and cheese on a bed of lettuce and top with the last slice of bread, mayo side down
  3. Using a sharp knife, cut the sandwich into triangular pieces, securing the pieces with toothpicks to keep them together. Turn everything on its side to reveal all of the beautiful layers in your club sandwich to make it more visually appealing. Serve quickly and have pleasure in it

For the sake of ease, I prefer to use pre-cooked bacon. The pre-cooked nitrate-free bacon from Trader Joe’s is our favorite brand. Make care to allow your toast to cool for a few minutes before assembling your sandwich. The lettuce will remain crisp as a result of this. When it comes to this dish, a well-sharpened knife is your best friend. It will make the layers of the sandwich seem quite attractive while also cutting through it without squishing it too much. My family and I absolutely like this delectable sandwich, and I believe I may have even converted my finicky kid to its ways.

They certainly seem to hit the spot for those weekend meals when you need to put something together quickly so that you can accomplish the rest of your responsibilities before heading home.

Among our many favorite sandwiches are the Reuben Sandwich, the Monte Cristo Sandwich, and the Hot Brown, to name a few.

How to make a Classic Club Sandwich

To begin, carefully butter both sides of each slice of bread once it has been lightly toasted. Then, on one side of each of those slices, smear a thin layer of mayonnaise. Now, on one of those pieces, arrange a layer of turkey, tomato, and cheddar cheese. Then, on top of that mayonnaise-side-up slice of bread, add another piece of toast. Now add the ham, bacon, and lettuce to the top of the stack. Then add another slice of bread, mayonnaise side down, to finish it off. Using toothpicks, poke holes in the four corners of the bread (see picture).

Alternatively, if you have an electric knife, you may utilize that.

Recipe notes and helpful tips

  • Make use of thinly sliced bread. Three pieces of bread are used in this sandwich, and it grows rather tall
  • You don’t want it to become too tall to be able to tie it with a toothpick or consume it. The same goes for slicing your tomatoes thinly and without piling on the lettuce too thick. Cook your bacon in the oven at 375 degrees for about 15 minutes, turning it halfway through the cooking time if necessary. Make use of an old baking sheet or line a newer baking sheet with parchment paper to save space. I have an old baking sheet that I keep around specifically for bacon
  • Don’t forget to grease the bread before you start cooking. In fact, it elevates this sandwich to an all new level. Always use high-quality lunch meat for your sandwiches. I particularly enjoy Boars Head, but there are a number of other options that would be as as good
  • This sandwich is best consumed right away or within a short period of time after it has been prepared. If you don’t want to disrupt the layers, use a sharp serrated knife to slice them. If you’re producing a large lot, an electric knife will come in useful. Kitchen scissors may be used to cut any extra lettuce for a more professional appearance.

Lorraine’s Club Sandwich

Most helpful critical review

A “decent” sandwich, in my opinion. With the exception of the third piece of bread (which is placed in the centre of the sandwich), it is quite similar to the sandwiches I regularly prepare. We attempted one sandwich with three pieces of toast, but we preferred to pack all of the meat and vegetables between two pieces of toast. I also tossed in some red onion and a dash of dijon mustard for good measure. Thanks! 111 Customer Reviews

This ultimate club sandwich dish is a terrific go-to choice on a hectic day because it is ready in minutes and tastes delicious.

Why you will love this recipe!

  • Simple and expedient: With this sandwich recipe, there is nothing complex about it
  • Simply layer the ingredients and you are ready to go
  • Excellent for children: These sandwiches are fantastic for children of all ages, and if you have a large number of mouths to feed, you can whip up a large batch in a short amount of time. Ingredients that are easy to find: Making the perfect club sandwich requires only a few simple items, many of which are already in your refrigerator or pantry

Club Sandwich Ingredients

  • Bread: You may use any type of bread you like for this dish, however I prefer to use thinner slices to make it simpler to consume the sandwich. To get a crispy texture, lightly toast the bread. Using a full-fat mayonnaise is preferred, however a low-fat mayonnaise can be substituted if desired. Turkey slices, tomato, cheddar cheese, ham slices, fried bacon, and lettuce leaves are some of the sandwich toppings.

How to make a club sandwich

  • 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise should be spread on one side of each slice of bread. Prepare your cutting board by arranging three slices down on it, mayo side up. One slice of bread should be topped with half of the turkey, tomato slices, and a slice of cheddar cheese
  • Place a second slice of bread, mayo side down, on top of the first slice of bread with cheddar cheese and spread with mayonnaise. Add ham, 2 slices bacon, and 2 lettuce leaves to the second slice and fold it in half. Season with salt and pepper, then put the final slice of bread on top of the lettuce, mayo side down. Sandwiches should be cut into half or quarters and served with your favorite side dish. To make a second clubhouse sandwich, simply repeat the process.

Can you make it ahead of time?

These traditional club sandwiches are best consumed as soon as possible after they are prepared to ensure that the bread remains crisp and fresh. You may prepare them a few hours ahead of time and store them in the refrigerator, and you can fry the bacon ahead of time so that everything is ready to go when you are.

What else can you add to it?

This is a conventional club sandwich recipe, but you can simply customize the contents to suit your tastes by mixing and matching the ingredients. Instead of mayonnaise, you may use garlic aioli, or you could add another condiment like mustard or fry sauce to the mix. Other salad elements, such as thinly sliced cucumber, work nicely, and you may substitute chicken for the turkey.

What do you serve it with?

It’s true that this clubhouse sandwich may be eaten on its own; it’s robust and satisfying, after all. It’s also delicious when paired with other favorite sides for a more substantial supper. Try it with the following:

  • Made-from-scratch French fries, sweet potato wedges, pasta salad with Italian dressing, chef’s salad

Club Sandwiches Recipe

  • 6 slices of nice white bread, either from a store-bought loaf or from a freshly baked loaf
  • Mayonnaise prepared from scratch
  • Roasted or poached bone-in breast of chicken, cut into 4 thin slices and served on a skewer
  • To taste, season with salt and freshly ground pepper
  • 8 pieces of thick bacon, fried to a crisp
  • 3-4 lettuce leaves, either iceberg, romaine, or Boston (I prefer Boston the best on this), washed and dried
  • 1 ripe tomato, thinly sliced

Preparation

  1. Lightly toast the bread slices and generously cover them with mayonnaise. Place two pieces of bread on a plate and top with chicken slices. Two pieces of bacon, enough lettuce to cover the bacon, and tomato slices are placed on top of each serving plate. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper. Place a second slice of bread, mayonnaise side down, on top of each serving. Mayonnaise should be spread on top of the bread. Chicken, two slices of bacon, lettuce, and tomato are placed on top. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper. Place the third slice of bread on top, mayonnaise side down, and press down. Serve the sandwiches by cutting them in half.

Tip

  • The avocado may be used in place of the chicken in a vegetarian version that is still delicious, especially when mixed along with a small amount of canned chipotle pepper paste and chopped cilantro in the mayonnaise

California Club Sandwich with Homemade Aioli

Sometimes the simplest solution is the best, and this California club ticks all the right boxes. It is, dare we say, the ideal lunch option for anybody looking for a quick and easy to prepare sandwich that is also genuinely fulfilling. It’s created with thinly sliced turkey (or chicken! ), toasted bread, crispy bacon, and fresh baby arugula, to name a few ingredients. It’s loaded with juicy tomatoes and the greatest homemade tarragon aioli you’ve ever tasted. You’ll want to lick the spoon after eating it.

Let’s get together and form an awesome California club!

Ingredients For A California Club

But first and foremost, what exactly is a club sandwich? This lunchtime favorite, also known as a clubhouse sandwich, is constructed by placing toasted bread, sliced fowl (turkey or chicken), bacon, lettuce, tomato, and mayonnaise on top of a toasted roll. It’s not uncommon at restaurants to see these sandwiches cooked with three pieces of bread each sandwich. Even while we enjoy it with only two slices of toasted bread, you may always add an extra piece if you want! Aside from that, we’re making some improvements, such as improving our own aioli sauce, which is fantastic!

  • Sandwich bread: we like whole wheat sandwich bread, but you may use anything you choose as long as it isn’t too dense. bacon that has been crisped for crunch and a salty bite Get some thinly sliced turkey from your favorite deli and serve it to your guests. You may also use thinly sliced chicken instead of the whole bird. Tomatoes: they are sweet, juicy, and full of flavor
  • They also offer freshness. Greens: We use arugula, which has a little bitter, peppery taste that we really enjoy. Use any green or lettuce you choose
  • You can even mix it up with romaine lettuce, butter lettuce, spinach, or other micro greens you like. Make sure your avocado is ripe before eating it! For more information on how to chop an avocado, please see our helpful recommendations. Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper are both recommended. Homemade tarragon aioli (recipe follows
  • This is my absolute favorite aioli! )
  • Grilled chicken breasts

To make the homemade tarragon aioli, combine a big egg, 1 garlic clove, fresh lemon juice, canola oil, extra virgin olive oil, Kosher salt, black pepper, and fresh tarragon in a mixing bowl until well combined. This is the most delicious aioli I’ve ever tasted in my whole life! When we don’t have tartar sauce, we make our best ever crab cake sandwiches, which we serve with butter poached cod, spread over poached eggs, and even over our best ever butter poached cod!

Homemade aioli may keep for up to a week in the refrigerator, though it will most likely separate before then. If it has been sitting in the fridge for a while, we recommend giving it a thorough whisk before using it. The taste will get more intense the longer it is left to sit!

How To Make A Club Sandwich

  1. Prepare the theaioli. In the bowl of a food processor fitted with a blade attachment, combine the egg, minced garlic, and freshly squeezed lemon juice. Process until the ingredients are finely minced, then gently stream in the canola oil while the machine is going. Continue to process for another 30 seconds, or until all of the ingredients are fully combined. Scrape down the edges of the pan and repeat the process. Finish the aioli by whisking it together. Toss the mixture into a large mixing bowl and slowly drizzle in the extra virgin olive oil, whisking the whole time. The aioli will be smooth and thick, with a pale yellow color to it. Toss in the finely chopped tarragon, Kosher salt, and freshly ground black pepper. Refrigerate until required after stirring to combine flavors. Toasted bread is a must-have. Remove bread from toaster oven and set on a wire rack until the rest of the ingredients are ready to be added to it. Using this method, you can keep the bread crispy. Assemble the California club sandwiches according to package directions. Spread a thin coating of tarragon aiolion sauce both sides of the toasted bread and toast for another minute. Layer the following items on top of the bottom piece: 1 and a half pieces of crispy bacon, thinly sliced turkey, and two tomato slices Place a layer of thinly sliced avocado on top of the top slice of bread and toast until golden. seasoning both the tomato and the avocado with kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper Place a good handful of arugula (or other greens) on top of the tomato, then flip the bread over and place the avocado on top
  2. Secure with skewers. Repeat with other ingredients. Make a compass shape out of four toothpicks or skewers and insert them into the sandwich (N, S, E, W). The fact that they haven’t gotten completely through the loaf of bread is OK. Using a sharp knife, slice the sandwich. To make four triangular pieces out of the sandwich, cut it in an X form with a sharp knife (see photo below!). Using a toothpick or skewer, push the toothpick or skewer through the remaining holes in each piece. Serve as soon as possible

Variations On The Classic Club Sandwich

  • Substitute chicken for the turkey – thinly sliced chicken breasts from the deli counter or grilled chicken cutlets would also be delicious options
  • You don’t want to create aioli, do you? You may, of course, substitute mayonnaise for the mustard! You can use any condiment that you enjoy the best, such as: honey mustard and horseradish sauce are examples of condiments. Replace typical pork bacon with turkey bacon or crispy pancetta in place of the pork bacon. In contrast to the classic club sandwich, which is created with Romaine lettuce (which normally has a fantastic crisp), we like to use arugula because of its peppery taste. Don’t be concerned about the texture of the lettuce or micro greens
  • They will all be delicious! There will still be plenty of crunch from the toasted bread and bacon.

You may prepare the bacon ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator until you’re ready to use it. What Makes a Club Sandwich a Club Sandwich?

A club sandwich can be made up of a variety of different components and layers. In my perspective, the only thing that distinguishes a club sandwich from other sandwiches is the presence of two separate layers, each containing some form of protein. As for this Ultimate Club, I make two sections: a portion of turkey breast with cheese and lettuce and a section of bacon with avocado and tomato. It’s actually rather good!

This Version vs. The Classic Club

The original version of a club sandwich is typically made with deli turkey or ham for convenience, but I like to make my own turkey when I have the opportunity.

In my perspective, it’s far more tender and tasty than beef. Also, instead of using premade mayonnaise, I prefer to roast garlic to produce a delicious aioli. Adding this tiny modification to the sandwich makes a significant effect. Nick Evans is a songwriter and musician from the United Kingdom.

Tips for Making Homemade Turkey Breast

Roasting a turkey breast is significantly simpler than roasting an entire turkey. There is no need to be concerned about a portion of the turkey overcooking. I recommend purchasing half of a turkey breast, which weighs around two to three pounds and has the bone and skin still attached. Roast the turkey breast at 350 degrees Fahrenheit until it reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit in the thickest section of the breast, basting it occasionally with olive oil, salt, and pepper. This will typically take 60-70 minutes, but the only way to be certain is to use a meat thermometer to check the temperature of the meat before cooking it.

Tips for Making Crispy Bacon

Crispy bacon, in my opinion, is an absolute must-have on a club sandwich. The quickest and most consistent method of preparing crispy, homogeneous bacon is to bake it in the oven! Check out my whole tutorial on how to accomplish this!

The Best Bread for Club Sandwiches

A club sandwich may be made with a variety of different types of bread, but I prefer to keep things easy for my club sandwiches by using white sandwich bread instead of whole wheat. It’s ideal for a club sandwich when it’s been toasted. Nick Evans is a songwriter and musician from the United Kingdom.

Ways to Adapt This Club Sandwich

This sandwich may be used in a variety of situations. I believe that turkey and bacon, as well as some form of spread, are very necessary (like mayo). Otherwise, let your imagination go wild! Here are a few suggestions to spice things up:

  • The following ingredients: sprouts
  • Thinly sliced red onion
  • Swiss cheese should be substituted for cheddar cheese. With a sprinkle of sriracha, you can make it spicy.

Can You Make This Ahead of Time?

Absolutely! In fact, you may prepare every component of this sandwich ahead of time. Make the aioli, roast the turkey, and bake the bacon several days in advance to save time. Then, if you’re in the mood for a sandwich, just mix it all together! For five to seven days, all of the separate pieces will stay very fine in the refrigerator.

What to Serve With Club Sandwiches

Traditionally, pickles and potato chips are served as a side dish with club sandwiches. However, I prefer to serve mine with a large salad, either a green salad or a potato salad would be delicious. Because it is such a filling sandwich, I prefer to serve it with a lighter side dish.

This recipe yields six sandwiches, which may be used to feed a big family for supper or to pack for lunches during the week as needed. You may roast the turkey and prepare the bacon ahead of time and store them in the refrigerator to assemble the sandwiches throughout the week. I prefer to bake my bacon so that the bits are consistent in size and crisp in texture. Take a look at my complete lesson on how to bake bacon in the oven! For the sandwich fillings, use the following ingredients:

  • 1 (2 to 3) pound turkey breast, bone-in and skin-on
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon freshly crushed black pepper
  • 1 (2 to 3) pound turkey breast, bone-in and skin-on Bacon, 1 loaf (18 pieces) white sandwich bread, 6 slices sharp cheddar cheese, 3 avocados, pitted and sliced, 2 tomatoes, 1 head romaine lettuce, 12 slices

To make the garlic aioli, follow these steps:

  • 1 head garlic
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • Juice from 1/2 lemon
  • Pinch salt
  • 1 head garlic
  1. Prepare the bacon as follows: Prepare a baking sheet by lining it with aluminum foil and placing a wire baking rack on top (cookie cooling rack). Lay the bacon strips on the wire rack so that they are perpendicular to the wires and that the bacon pieces do not overlap one another. Cook the bacon in the oven: Place the bacon in a chilly oven and preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Preheat the oven to 150°F or 200°F. Around the 18-minute mark, take a look at the bacon. Bacon cooks at a different rate depending on the kind. Remove the dish from the oven and place it on a platter lined with paper towels. Allow the bacon fat to cool before using. After that, carefully remove the foil and replace it over the baking sheet. On the same baking sheet, you will roast the turkey breast. Roast the turkey breast as follows: Reduce the oven temperature to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Place the turkey breast on a baking sheet lined with aluminum foil, skin side up. To prepare the turkey breast, drizzle generously with olive oil and season with salt and pepper on both sides. Roast the turkey breast for 60 to 70 minutes, or until the thickest section of the breast registers 165°F on an instant-read thermometer. Nick Evans is a songwriter and musician from the United Kingdom. Nick Evans
  2. Roast the garlic for the aioli while the turkey breast is roasting: While the turkey breast is roasting, snip the top off a garlic bulb to expose the garlic cloves. Place the garlic bulb, cut side up, on a sheet of aluminum foil large enough to completely wrap it and set aside. Using a teaspoon of olive oil and a pinch of salt, drizzle the head of garlic with the mixture. Wrap the package with aluminum foil. Add the foil-wrapped head of garlic to the sheet pan with the turkey breast when the turkey breast has 40 minutes left to cook. Remove the turkey and garlic from the pan: Remove the turkey breast and roasted garlic from the oven and place to a chopping board to cool for a few minutes
  3. The turkey breast should be sliced thinly using a carving knife after it is comfortable to handle it. (Any leftover turkey breast may be kept in the fridge for 5-7 days if it is stored in a covered container.) Nick Evans
  4. To make the aioli, follow these steps: Once the garlic has cooled, use your fingers to push the cloves out of the skins and into a small dish. They should be able to slide out with ease. Using a fork, mash them together, then toss in the mayonnaise, lemon juice, and salt. Refrigerate for up to a week before serving. Nick Evans
  5. Assemble the club sandwiches in the following order: When you’re ready to assemble a club sandwich, toast three slices of white sandwich bread until lightly browned on both sides. Prepare the garlic aioli by spreading a small amount on one side of each piece of bread (you’ll need around 2 tablespoons in total). One bread piece should be topped with lettuce, 4-6 ounces of sliced turkey, and two slices of cheese. Then add another slice of bread to the mixture (center slice). 2 pieces of bacon, 1/2 an avocado, and 2 slices of tomato are placed on top of the salad. The final slice of bread should be placed on top. Nick Evans is a songwriter and musician from the United Kingdom. Nick Evans
  6. To Serve: Cut the sandwich in half or quarters before serving. Using a long toothpick, secure each sandwich slice together. Leftovers! I prefer assembling the sandwiches just before serving, but you may prepare the individual components ahead of time as well. It is possible to store the turkey, bacon, and aioli in the fridge for 5-7 days
  7. However, it is not recommended.
