Whenever I’m buying a large can of boneless chicken, I opt for the “boned chicken” variety. It’s less expensive than entirely white meat, which is rare. Despite the fact that this is shredded, the can appears to be a little disorganized at first glance. If you like only white meat, go ahead and eat it. It will only be a little more expensive. Make cleanup a breeze by lining a crockpot with a slow cooker liner. Combine all of the ingredients in a large mixing bowl. (Make certain that the chicken cans have been well emptied!) Shake things up a little bit.

  1. They will disintegrate as the sauce boils down.
  2. (You may also leave it running on low all day.) Once this is completed, it is ready to be served on buns.

  4. This dish is ideal for a potluck gathering.
  5. You’ll have excellent leftover shredded chicken sandwich filling the next day, too!

AboutMary

Many people have grown up eating shredded chicken sandwiches, which is why this recipe for shredded chicken sandwiches is so popular. Chicken, creamy soup, and crumbled crackers or potato chips join together to form a delectable chicken and cracker or chip sandwich. If you are from Ohio, you may be familiar with shredded chicken sandwiches, which are served on a bun. It’s a traditional recipe that’s served at family gatherings, drive-ins, and, according to what I’ve heard, certain fast food establishments in the state.

There are enough sandwiches for 6-8 people, but you can easily double the recipe to feed a bigger group. However, my family like to use potato chips as the filler instead of crackers or bread crumbs, which may be found in numerous variations of this dish.

What you need

Chicken– You need need cooked and shredded chicken for this recipe. Alternatively, pre-cooked chicken, such as rotisserie chicken, can be used for the slow cooker. If you don’t like cream of chicken soup, you may substitute cream of mushroom or cream of celery soup, which are also delicious. Use your favorite potato chips; I prefer wavy potato chips, but feel free to use anything you choose. In fact, I enjoy adding sour cream and onion chips to my recipes for a little more taste. Some individuals like crushed crackers such as Saltines, Ritz, or Tollhouse, while others prefer whole crackers.

These components are added to the mixture to serve as a filler and to give it a bit more heft.

Chicken Broth– A little amount of chicken broth can be used to thin down the mixture.

Salt, pepper, garlic powder, and poultry seasoning are among the seasonings used.

How to make shredded chicken sandwiches

  1. Combine:In a slow cooker, combine cream of chicken soup, chicken broth, poultry seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until well combined and creamy. Combine the cooked, shredded chicken and the crushed potato chips or crackers in a large mixing bowl. Cook: Cover and cook for 1 hour on high or 2-3 hours on low, depending on your preference. Serve on a hamburger bun or a sandwich roll while still hot. Pickles, or even a sprinkle of broken chips or crackers, can be added to the sandwich for extra flavor.

Cooking chicken in the slow cooker

You may use pre-cooked chicken, such as rotisserie chicken, or you can cook the chicken in the slow cooker before shredding it yourself. If you choose to utilize this approach, place the chicken in a slow cooker with 1 can of cream of chicken soup and cook on low for 8 hours. Cook the chicken for 3 hours on high heat before shredding it. Continue to prepare according to the recipe.

How to store

Any leftovers can be kept in an airtight jar in the refrigerator for up to 3 days after preparation. Cook for approximately 10 minutes in a pot on the stovetop.

Recipe tips

  • In order to add a bit extra taste, consider replacing the crackers with sour cream and onion potato chips. When possible, prepare the mixture the day before and then heat it in the slow cooker just before serving.

Fast and Easy Shredded Chicken Sandwiches

Here’s a recipe for shredded chicken sandwiches that’s both quick and simple to make. These sandwiches are quite popular in this neighborhood (Ohio). From parties to potlucks, you’ll find them being served at many types of occasions. They’re also available for purchase at most neighborhood ice cream shops. Many households have their own secret shredded chicken recipes that they keep to themselves. Some cooks insist on roasting and deboning a whole chicken before stuffing it with a variety of fillings, ranging from breadcrumbs to saltine crackers.

The whole preparation time is around 20 minutes.

Step 1: Preperation

For this recipe, I use canned chicken that I purchased from a local wholesale food wholesaler. It weighs 48 ounces, and the chicken is simmered in chicken broth. Cream of chicken soup is the only additional item that you will be using in your recipe. The proportion that I’ve discovered to be the most effective is three parts chicken to one part soup. The amount of soup I use is one and a half 10 ounce cans of chicken broth for every 48 ounce chicken can I use. Thus, 2 cans of chicken and 3 cans of soup combine to make a delicious meal that wastes no time at all!

  • Each can of chicken will yield around 16 to 20 sandwiches per can.
  • After the mixture comes to a boil, decrease the heat to a low level and continue to cook for 15 minutes.
  • Any large chunks that have remained can be broken up using the spoon that you are now using to whisk the mixture together.
  • Huge amounts of coffee may be prepared in an electric roaster, which will serve a large number of people.
  • Place a dollop of the mixture on a sandwich bread and you’re good to go!

What is a Crockpot Ohio Shredded Chicken Sandwiches

When I was growing up in Ohio, my brother participated in Little League, and my mother and I would occasionally volunteer to operate the snack stand. We sold sweets, sodas (which people in this country refer to as “pop,” but I refuse to accept that term), hot dogs, sloppy joes, and the most amazing hot shredded chicken sandwiches on the planet. Those chicken sandwiches were a huge hit every time! When my mother was younger, a friend taught her how to prepare the special sandwiches. She said that they are a regional Ohio tradition, and as a result, various people have varied methods of creating them.

  1. Our buddy, on the other hand, used a package of Stove Top stuffing mix to make hers.
  2. Friends, this is not haute cuisine in the traditional sense!
  3. We are not embarrassed in the least!
  4. My 8-year-old son, who is a finicky eater, also gave his approval.

Making Crockpot Ohio Shredded Chicken Sandwiches

This dish is ridiculously simple! Because it is made simple by the use of canned chicken, this recipe is ideal for beginners. You should not be hesitant to utilize canned chicken if you have never done so in the past. When you first open the can, it’s not a particularly pleasing sight. or scent. It does have a strong odor that reminds me of canned tuna. Don’t be concerned, it will be delicious once it has been cooked! I use one Sweet Sue Boned Chicken 50-ounce can for this recipe. It’s pretty easy to find at places like Walmart or Kroger.

  1. For this dish, you’d need four of those cans of soup.
  2. It is certain that you may have some anxiety when you reach this moment.
  3. But, once again, I’ll tell you.
  4. Trust me when I say that when it has been gently cooked and all of the tastes have melded together, it makes a truly excellent chicken sandwich.
  5. My normal method is to simmer the chicken on low for 2-3 hours, or until it is nice and hot.
  6. Allow it to simmer on low heat for about 15 minutes, stirring constantly, until the cream cheese is completely mixed into the chicken.

It’s time to put your skills to work! Pile the shredded chicken from Ohio onto some beautiful, soft hamburger buns and enjoy! Nickles Honey Buns are my ultimate favorite, but the ones in these photographs are also delicious. I used an excellent sesame seed bun, and it turned out to be rather tasty.

What Is Buffalo Chicken?

Buffalo chicken is often made out of chicken breasts or wings that have been marinated in a hot sauce. It is possible to purchase buffalo sauce in the condiment section of your local supermarket, or you may make your own homemade buffalo sauce using basic items such as garlic powder, brown sugar, cayenne pepper, and Worcestershire sauce! Crock pot buffalo chicken is moist and tasty, thanks to the addition of buffalo sauce. Not very hot (although you can use an extremely spicy buffalo sauce if that’s your thing), and it’s easy to make.

Perfect for individuals who enjoy mildly spicy cuisine. Also, incidentally., this recipe is ideal for a quick and simple Game Day lunch that everyone will like and you won’t have to sweat over for hours.

Ingredients Checklist:

In order to make the Slow Cooker Buffalo Chicken Sandwiches, you will not require much time or effort. Just:

  • Chicken breasts are a delicacy. To begin, gather your ingredients: 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breast
  • 1 tablespoon hot sauce. Make use of the brand of spicy sauce that you personally choose to use. Hot sauce for buffalo chicken wings is the ideal complement to the dish. Frank’s Wing Sauce and Ranch Seasoning Packet are two of my favorites. Ciabatta Rolls
  • A package of ranch seasoning, such as Hidden Valley Ranch
  • And some sour cream. Any type of sandwich buns or Kaiser rolls would work, but I prefer ciabatta bread since they hold up well to the juicy chicken and don’t go soggy
  • Toppings. As an additional garnish, you should have chives, ranch dressing, and bleu cheese crumbles on hand to put on the sandwiches.

Can I Use Chicken Thighs?

Although boneless, skinless chicken breasts are the ideal choice for this recipe, boneless, skinless chicken thighs can also be used as an alternate component if you like. If you opt to use chicken thighs, make sure you have 1 pound of them on hand before starting.

How to Make Shredded Buffalo Chicken in the Crock Pot

Making Shredded Buffalo Chicken in the Crock Pot is a quick and straightforward procedure. I have evidence to back up my claim:

  • Place the chicken breasts in a slow cooker with a 12 cup of your favorite buffalo sauce and simmer on low for 8 hours. It makes no difference whatever brand you choose, however Sweet Baby Ray’s and Frank’s Buffalo Wing Sauce are two excellent alternatives that are well worth trying. Add your ranch seasoning package to the saucepan along with the chicken and hot sauce
  • Mix well. Set the timer for four hours on high or eight hours on low and slow to cook chicken that will break apart with no difficulty. Once the chicken has finished cooking, shred it with two forks or by transferring it to a large mixing bowl and using a hand mixer

Assemble Sandwiches

Ciabatta rolls should be sliced in half down the centre. Place a portion of your Crock Pot Buffalo Chicken on each bun, followed by any additional toppings you’d want to have with them. To add even more flavor, you may top the salad with blue cheese crumbles or blue cheese dressing, followed by a drizzle of ranch dressing. Try adding a slice of cheddar cheese and a slice of red onion on the top for a delicious finishing touch!

Side Dish Recipes to serve:

Looking for a simple side dish to serve alongside these buffalo chicken sandwiches? Some of my personal favorites are as follows:

  • Simple Green Pea Salad with Bacon, Homemade Tater Tots, Homemade French Fries, Funeral Potatoes Recipe (the potatoes with crushed cornflakes on top), and Funeral Potatoes Recipe (the potatoes with crushed cornflakes on top).

Can I Make It in the Instant Pot?

Instant Pot Shredded Buffalo Chicken is a dish that can be prepared in a matter of minutes. The chicken should be cooked for 8-10 minutes on manual high pressure before being rapidly released from the pressure cooker, shredding the chicken with a fork, and placing it on your ciabatta buns.

How to Store Leftover Shredded Chicken

Y’all, this is a fantastic recipe for making a large quantity and storing some for later use. It freezes like magic, retaining all of its original flavor. Make sure to store your leftover shredded chicken in an airtight container with a tight-fitting cover. Tupperware containers made of plastic or food storage bags with zipper seals are both suitable options. Once you’ve placed the chicken in the right container, you can store it in the refrigerator for up to four days to ensure that it stays fresh.

Can I Freeze the Chicken?

You may freeze the Shredded Buffalo Chicken if you want to make it ahead of time. If you want to prepare it ahead of time, store it in an airtight container with a tight-fitting cover in the freezer for up to three months. When you’re ready to consume the chicken, thaw it overnight in the refrigerator before you start cooking. For optimal results, reheat the chicken mixture over a low heat until warm.
