  3. Pour chocolate and caramel syrups over the ice cream sandwiches and sprinkle with your favorite toppings (I used small M M’s for this recipe)
  4. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving. Repeat the layers a second time. The handmade ice cream sandwich cake should be frozen for at least 1-2 hours, or until it is solid.

I had thought that everyone would appreciate it, but three of the youngsters respectfully refused the dessert I had prepared. After reading other people’s comments, I decided to add an entire jar of hot fudge sauce on each layer for the reunion, and it turned out great.

Ice cream sandwiches were layered with fudge sauce, Cool Whip, then more ice cream sandwiches.

If you don’t have Blue Bunny brand on hand, you may substitute any other brand that you can purchase at your local supermarket. The only criterion is that they be rectangular in shape, otherwise your cake would have a lot of holes in it. You may even want to experiment with other tastes that you come across! You may experiment with flavors such as Neapolitan, cookies and cream, and even mint!

This Easy Ice Cream Sandwich Cake recipe calls for an 8-ounce tub of Cool Whip, which works well.

You will only need 4 or 5 crushed Oreos for the Oreo layer, but you are welcome to add extra if you choose.

HOW TO MAKE ICE CREAM SANDWICH CAKE

It’s time to put this cake together now that you’ve selected all of the ingredients you want.

  1. To begin, line an 8 1/2-inch by 4 1/2-inch loaf pan with parchment paper and set aside. Allocate enough additional paper to line the pan’s walls and hang over the sides
  2. Remove the wrappers from three of the ice cream sandwiches and use them to line the bottom of the pan. To fully fill the pan, you’ll need to cut one of the sandwiches in half and arrange the halves side by side on a cutting board. After that, spread 4 oz. of Cool Whip on top of the ice cream sandwich layer (approximately half the tub). Spread the Cool Whip layer on top of the sandwiches in a uniform layer. Now, evenly distribute the crushed Oreo cookies over the layer of Cool Whip, being sure to cover all of it. Then, on top of the Cool Whip and Oreos, add the final layer of ice cream sandwiches to complete the cake. The sandwiches should be arranged similarly to the previous layers, with a little press into the Cool Whip layer to compress the Cool Whip into any cracks and crevices. Complete the cake by pouring the leftover Cool Whip on top of the ice cream sandwich cake, making sure it is thoroughly covered
  3. And Finally, wrap the cake tightly in plastic wrap and lay it in the freezer for at least an hour, or until it is firm to touch. I created this ice cream sandwich dessert a few weeks ago for some neighborhood kids who were playing in our yard.

One very attractive young lady pronounced it her “best treat EVER!” Later, I received a text message from another neighbor informing me that her kid had requested this cake for her upcoming birthday (which is in 9 months– ha!).

How to make Ice Cream Sandwich Cake

  • Make certain that the tray is lined with parchment paper or foil. Getting the cake out of the pan and into a cutting board for cutting and serving is critical. Once the pan has been lined, we’ll begin layering the ingredients: the first layer is ice cream sandwiches (as seen in the photo above), the second layer is ice cream, the third layer is ice cream, and the fourth layer is another layer of ice cream
  • Just before serving, spoon whipped cream over the whole cake and sprinkle crumbled Oreos® on top
  • This is optional.

QUICK TIP

To make Ice Cream Sandwich Cake in a 9×13-inch pan, you’ll need approximately 24 ice cream sandwiches, 1 and 1/2 containers of ice cream, and 2 containers of whipped cream for the larger size cake.

A few tips

  • Ice cream that is of high quality always tastes the finest. The Tillamook® (not sponsored, but a fan!) and Ben & Jerry’s® ice cream are two of our personal favorite brands. Keep the ice cream as cold as possible by doing the following: If the ice cream is allowed to defrost excessively, the consistency will turn ici when it is re-frozen. Obviously, super-hard ice cream is tough to spread, but you don’t want the ice cream to go too soft while you’re spreading it either. Crushing the Oreos is a simple process. Crush whole Oreos in a high-powered blender or food processor until finely ground. The cookies can also be crushed with a rolling pin if they are placed in a plastic bag and rolled with the rolling pin until they are smashed. You may also use your hands to crush the Oreos and sprinkle them on top of the cake.

  • Neapolitan: Use Neapolitan ice cream sandwiches plus chocolate, strawberry, or vanilla ice cream to create this dessert. If you like mint chocolate, you may make mint chocolate ice cream sandwiches or mint chocolate ice cream
  • Ice cream sandwiches topped with crushed candy including toffee/Skor, M M’s, Reeses, Snickers, Kit Kat and Rolos (all trademarked brands of candy), whoppers (all trademarked brands of candy), and so on.   • Ice Cream Sandwich Cake with Magic Shell: Make vanilla ice cream sandwiches and fill them with vanilla ice cream for a magically delicious cake. Leave off the whipped cream and sprinkle Magic Shell® over top just before serving instead. Depending on your preference, serve with a dollop of whipped cream on the side. Hot fudge or caramel sauce: To make your bars even sweeter, sprinkle them with hot fudge or caramel sauce, whether they are handmade or store-bought. Storing/Make Ahead

  • After making the cake, it may be frozen for up to 3-4 days before serving (without the whipped topping on top). Personally, I believe it is best served the same day it is prepared. Just before serving, fold in the whipped topping: Just before serving, add the whipped cream on the top of the dish (after the other layers have chilled). Because the consistency changes to an ice feel when frozen on top of the cake, it does not freeze properly. Refrigerate the cake once it has been lightly wrapped in plastic wrap and placed back in the freezer

Remove the ice cream sandwiches from their wrappers. 9 sandwiches should be pressed into the bottom of the pan. To make 2 of them fit, you’ll need to chop them down a little bit (see photographs in the post)
  • Spread about half of the ice cream on each of the ice cream sandwiches with the big spoon
  • 9 additional sandwiches should be pressed on top. Spread the remaining ice cream on top of the sandwiches and push it down firmly. Refrigerate until the layers are stiff, about 1 hour, after covering securely with plastic wrap. Remove the dessert from the freezer just before serving and sprinkle the whipped topping over the top of everything before serving. Oreos should be crushed and sprinkled over top before cutting and serving. Any leftovers should be returned to the freezer as soon as possible, properly wrapped. It is best eaten the same day it is prepared since the whipped cream gets ice when it is frozen.
