This dish, which is neither a hamburger nor a sloppy Joe, is reported to have initially been offered at the state’s Maid-Rite restaurants. Serve with mustard and ketchup on the side to complete the meal.

  • 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • 2 pounds of beef (20 percent fat)
  • 1 medium onion, chopped into tiny dice
  • 2 teaspoons salt and pepper
  • 1 cup no-salt-added chicken broth, either handmade or purchased from a supermarket
  • To make the dressing, combine the following ingredients in a small mixing bowl: 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 chopped chipotle pepper in adobo (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper. 6 hamburger buns, cut in half, for serving
  • Dill pickle slices are used as garnish.
Directions

In a large skillet, heat the oil over medium-high heat until shimmering. Once the oil is shimmering, add the ground beef and onion and cook for several minutes, moving constantly, until the meat is browned and no longer has any clumps of meat remaining in the pan. The final product should resemble a large number of little crumbles. Stir in the broth, vinegar, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, chipotle pepper (if using), brown sugar, salt, and black pepper until everything is well-combined and no lumps remain.

Fill each bottom bread half with a generous quantity of meat, using a slotted spoon to distribute the meat evenly.

This very hot sandwich is brimming with seasoned, creamy hamburger meat and is served on crusty French bread with butter.

  • French bread
  • 1 pound ground meat
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 3.5 cups water White cooking wine
  • 3 cloves minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 10.75 ounces water a dash of pepper
  • A half cup of condensed cheddar cheese soup shredded cheddar cheese
  • Shredded cheddar cheese
  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees fahrenheit Cook ground beef in a large pan with butter over medium heat until browned. Add white wine, garlic cloves, onion powder, and a pinch of pepper, and cook until the meat is no longer pink. Drain the water and return it to the pan. Combine the Worcestershire sauce, condensed cheddar cheese soup, and cheese in a mixing bowl. Heat over a low heat, stirring constantly, until the cheese has melted completely. Cover the pan and turn off the heat. French bread should be cut into fourths. Using a sharp knife, cut each fourth in half vertically
