Remember that this approach will not keep your beef warm eternally, so don’t leave it in the cooler for longer than a few hours at a time. Check the internal temperature of the meat using a meat thermometer to ensure it remains safe.

For a few days after cooking, your meat will be perfectly fresh.

Roasted or smoked pulled pig flesh can keep in the refrigerator for 3-4 days if stored properly.

Deep South Dish comes to you straight from the kitchen of Deep South Dish.

Prep time:10 min|Inactive time:1 hour| Yield:About 80 tea sandwiches

Ingredients

  • Three 10-ounce blocks of sharp or extra-sharp cheddar cheese, freshly grated
  • 7-ounce jars or cans chopped pimientos, drained
  • Real mayonnaise (such as Dukes) in a cup or so (more or less)
  • Worcestershire sauce (a dash of it)
  • Optional: a couple of dashes of spicy pepper sauce, or more to taste
  • Optional: 1/2 teaspoon of Cajun seasoning or cayenne pepper, or to taste
  • Loaf of white sandwich bread weighing 1 1/2 pounds

Instructions By hand or with a mixer, blend the cheese, pimentos, and mayonnaise until well incorporated and smooth. Add Worcestershire sauce, spicy sauce, and Cajun spice, along with extra mayonnaise as required to get the desired consistency, and stir well. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or up to overnight if feasible, after preparing the dish. Ensure that the pimiento cheese is at room temperature before using. Distribute it equally on one piece of bread, top with another slice, and continue stacking until you have three or four complete sandwiches.

  1. Use a tiny cookie cutter to cut out circles, squares, strips, half, or quarter triangles, or use a square or strip cutter to cut out strips.
  2. Notes from the cook: I prefer to add a couple of dashes of spicy sauce, as well as Worcestershire sauce and Cajun seasoning, but if you want a milder mix, leave those ingredients out altogether.
  3. Add the cheese and mayonnaise to the food processor and pulse until the desired consistency is achieved.
  4. If you want to make it look as good as the Masters, top it with some watercress and very thinly cut sweet Vidalia onions.

Ham and Pimento Cheese Tea Sandwiches with Pickled Okra Garnish

For a Southern tea party, these lovely ham and pimento cheese tea sandwiches with pickled okra garnishes would be the ideal addition! It is possible that this content contains affiliate links. To put it another way, if you click on the link and buy something, I will get a commission at no additional cost to you. All of my opinions are entirely my own. Pimento cheese is not just a Southern staple, but it is also a typical tea sandwich filling — you really don’t need much else to make a tea sandwich except the spread itself, sandwiched between two pieces of white bread.

Done.

In fact, after adding these gorgeous pickled okra and pimento decorations to my pimento cheese tea sandwiches, I don’t believe I’ll ever make them again without them!

Using a slice of pickled okra and sandwiching it between two slices of pimento on each side, you can transform the already lovely okra cross-section into a stunning flower.

Ingredients

Make sure it’s nice because this is the most critical component of your pimento cheese tea sandwiches. I’d recommend creating this handmade Southern pimento cheese if you get the opportunity. You may even prepare the ingredients many days in advance if you choose. I enjoy being able to prepare my sandwich fillings ahead of time so that all I have to do when it comes time to serve the sandwiches is spread the filling on the bread and trim the edges. The pimento cheese recipe on my site is one of the most popular, with about 22 thousand shares (as of August 26, 2017), and for good reason.

However, there are a variety of spices, like a dash of Old Bay, that may be used to enhance the flavor.

Before you start making your pimento cheese, save aside a few pimentos so that you may use them as garnish!

), but it’s available in 40 other states.

Pickled Okra

In addition, you may produce quick refrigerator pickled okraat home for your garnishes. Plan to prepare this 48 hours ahead of time to ensure that they have enough time to absorb all of the wonderful flavors! I made these using the sweet and tangy recipe, but I believe they’d be equally delicious with the hot and smokey version as well. (Both recipes may be found at the website provided above!) So, to be completely honest, I did not prepare my pickled okra 48 hours ahead of time. I made these on the day of the event.

They were not as tasty as they would have been if I had allowed them to pickle for the entire two days, but I was able to speed up the process by not allowing the liquid to cool completely before pouring it over the okra pods.

While same-day pickling isn’t my first choice advice, it worked perfectly for me when I was in a pickle (LOL!) and had no okra pickles on hand the day before a big event.

Although I can acquire them at my local grocery shop, it is possible to get them online if your local retailers do not stock pickled okra.

The Bread

I like to use a slightly hard white bread for these, but you must be cautious to preserve it as intact as possible during the baking process. Putting the pimento cheese in the refrigerator for 30 minutes before constructing your sandwiches will help it spread more easily over the soft slices. Another thing you might want to do is put your bread in the freezer for 30 minutes before assembling your sandwiches. It will aid in keeping the bread strong as you spread on the pimento cheese, as well as allowing you to cut with cleaner edges while cutting the bread.

Trim your crusts and cut your sandwiches with a fine serrated bread knife to ensure that your bread doesn’t get smooshed throughout the process of making them.

Fully Homemade vs. Semi-homemade

In general, the following is what you’ll require:

Fully Homemade

  • Preserve a few pimentos for the garnish while making Southern Pimento Cheese. Pickled Okra from the refrigerator
  • Sliced Black Forest Ham What’s that, you want handmade bread as well? Overachiever! (Although I beg you to please prepare an extra loaf and send it to me!) Take a look at this recipe for handmade bread from my friend Alli at Longbourn Farm

Quick and Dirty (Barely-Homemade)

  • You may find out where you can obtain palmetto cheese by using the location finder on this page. Pickled Okra (available on Amazon or at your local supermarket)
  • Sliced Black Forest ham (optional)
  • White bread that is not the cheapest but is significantly stiffer
  • For the garnishes, try to get your hands on a jar of pimentos if at all possible.

Whatever route you take, whether you prepare everything from scratch or use pre-made items, it will be a wonderful smash at your Southern tea party!

Pimento Cheese

Pimento cheese is one of my favorite foods. That’s right, I said it. The answer to the question “What is pimento cheese?” may come as a surprise to those who are not from the South. Pimento cheese is a typical Southern cheddar cheese and pimento pepper dish that has become popular in recent years. This pâté is lovingly known as “pâté du Sud,” which translates as “Southern pâté.” Creamy and cheesy, pimento cheese is also acidic, peppery, and spreadable (you can make it hot if you like). For those who enjoy cheddar cheese, pimento cheese is going to be their new favorite party dip and sandwich spread, according to Gourmet.

  1. I was a fussy eater back then, but at least I had the foresight to recognize the value of her pimento cheese at the time.
  2. This is occurring more regularly these days, which is a pleasant surprise.
  3. As I was getting lost in memories, I came upon my great-recipe aunt’s for Jell-o cucumber salad, but not Mimi’s pimento cheese.
  4. Let’s go to work on some!

What are pimento peppers?

Pigeon pea or pimento peppers are little red peppers that are not at all hot, and are used in a variety of dishes. On the grocery store shelves, they’re commonly referred to as cherry peppers when they’re sold fresh. Pimento peppers are even milder than red bell peppers in terms of heat. You may be familiar with them as the little red peppers that are packed into green olives. Please be assured that pimento cheese has absolutely nothing to do with pimento loaf if you’re from the Midwestern United States.

Pimento Cheese Ingredients

To make pimento cheese in its most basic form, combine cheddar cheese with pimento peppers and mayonnaise in a mixing bowl.

Freshly prepared, homemade pimento cheese is considerably superior than store-bought alternatives in terms of flavor. By creating it yourself with excellent ingredients, you may eliminate odd preservatives. Here’s everything you’ll need to get started.

Extra-Sharp Cheddar Cheese

Make sure to choose a great extra-sharp cheddar cheese so that the cheddar flavor may stand out above everything others. Tillamook was the brand I used. Hand-grate your cheese using the big holes of a box grater to get a fine texture. Do not purchase pre-shredded cheese since it is covered in a powder that dulls the flavor and interferes with the creamy texture of the finished product.

Cream Cheese

Cheese is enhanced with cream cheese, which makes your pimento cheese tangy and spreadable while also enhancing the flavor of the cheddar. Although cream cheese is not required in all pimento cheese recipes, I find that it does not taste quite right without it. You can bet your bottom dollar that Mimi’s pimento cheese was created with cream cheese. According to the extensive history of pimento cheese at Serious Eats.com, cream cheese and pimentos have been friends for a long time, and they continue to be.

Pimento Peppers

Pimento peppers are an unavoidable ingredient. They impart a moderate pepper taste to the dip, as well as giving it its distinctive scarlet color. Make sure to rinse your peppers well, and if they come in slices rather than small pieces, give them a few more chops before using them. If you are unable to get pimento peppers, roasted red peppers make an excellent replacement. Chop them until you have a scant one-half cup of chopped vegetables. For my recipe experiments, I used canned peppers, but you could go the additional mile and roast your own peppers.

Mayonnaise

Mayonnaise adds a velvety texture as well as a distinct taste to dishes. If we didn’t use cream cheese, we’d make up for it by adding more mayonnaise, but I’ve discovered that a mix of the two produces the most delicious results. Duke’s brand of mayonnaise is the industry standard for pimento cheese in the South. Instead, I chose Sir Kensington’s, because that is the brand that I always have on hand.

A Few Simple Seasonings

Pimento cheese flavorings vary per recipe. A delicate and enticing savoriness is provided by a blend of garlic powder and onion powder. I prefer my pimento cheese a touch spicy, so my recipe includescayenne pepperas well. The heat is not overpowering, yet it keeps me coming back for more. Take it up a level by using fresh jalapenos, which provide a very fresh taste as well as a little crunch. A little goes a long way in this world. If you have a sensitivity to heat, you may reduce or delete both the cayenne pepper and the jalapeo pepper.

How to Make Pimento Cheese

Pimento cheese is really simple to prepare and can be completed in about 10 minutes. Essentially, all you have to do is whisk the ingredients together until they are well-combined. I use a hand mixer to combine the ingredients, which results in a beautiful, softly fluffy texture that is perfect for serving. Use caution while processing pimento cheese since it is ideal when the individual components keep some of their natural texture and flavor.

Watch How to Make Pimento Cheese

Here are a few typical ways to serve your meal:

Pimento Cheese Sandwiches

The only way to truly live is to eat a pimento grilled cheese sandwich on a regular basis. If you’re hosting a party, you may also go with tradition and serve pimento cheese between two slices of bread, split into tea sandwiches.

You may also use pimento cheese to make a more substantial sandwich by layering it on top of chopped cucumber (or dill pickles), tomato, sprouts or arugula, and/or a fried egg.

As a Dip or Spread

The combo of pimento cheese and crackers is a winning one. To lighten up your party spread, add large pieces of bell pepper (any color except green), cucumber, or celery to the mix, as seen below. Use pimento cheese as inspiration for your favorite cheddar recipes, and add pimento peppers to them for a unique twist. I can’t wait to include some into my favorite mac and cheese recipe. Using a hand mixer, your stand mixer, or a strong wooden spoon or spatula, combine the ingredients until they are thoroughly combined. Continue to beat until the mixture is completely mixed
  2. Taste, and if necessary, season with additional black pepper and/or salt to enhance the overall flavor (I usually add a pinch of two). If you want your pimento cheese to have a little more heat to it, you may add another sprinkle of cayenne pepper. Blend once more
  3. Using a small serving dish, transfer the mixture on the serving plate. Serve your pimento cheese right away, or store it in the refrigerator for up to 1 week in the refrigerator. It’s important to let pimento cheese to rest at room temperature for 30 minutes before serving to soften it.

Tip for cream cheese: If you’re like me and usually forget to take the cream cheese out of the fridge before you start cooking, simply cube it and place it in a microwave-safe mixing bowl. Heat it in the microwave for 15 to 30 seconds, just long enough to make it more flexible. We just require it to be warm enough to combine with the other ingredients, not hot enough to melt the cheese. * Pimento peppers may be found in the following places: Pimento peppers may be found in most well-stocked grocery shops, usually alongside the roasted red peppers and other peppers.

You won’t be able to tell the difference.

Cucumber and Pimiento Cheese Tea Sandwiches

Cucumber sandwiches are created by arranging thin slices of English cucumbers on a piece of bread that has been smeared with a delightful chive and dill cream cheese mixture before baking. The second tea sandwich is loaded with handmade Pimiento cheese, sometimes known as Southernpâté, and served with crackers.

Considering that both variations tend to be big crowd pleasers, you might want to consider doubling the recipe and stashing a couple away for the host to enjoy later in the evening.

Pro Tips for Making Tea Sandwiches

  • This Cucumber and Pimento Cheese Tea Sandwiches recipe is particularly appealing since you can customize the form of the sandwiches to your liking. If you choose to turn them into finger sandwiches, each full sandwich will provide three finger sandwiches. With cookie cutters, you may also make a variety of forms out of the cookies. I recommend that you use a sharp knife to cut the sandwiches into squares, fingers, or triangles to reduce waste. These tea sandwiches may be made a day ahead of time and kept in an airtight container in the refrigerator to save time on the day of serving. Remove the layers from the oven and place a piece of wax paper between them. The sharp taste of the dill in the cream cheese complements the cucumber well, and in my opinion, you can never go wrong with pimiento cheese, especially when it’s the ideal size for light snacking

Grilled Pimento Cheese Sandwiches

Preparation time: 15 minutes Preparation time: 7 minutes Time allotted: 22 minutes

Ingredients

  • A quarter cup mayonnaise, divided
  • 1 tablespoon finely grated yellow onion
  • 1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
  • A pinch of cayenne pepper
  • 2 cups (8 ounces) finely grated extra-sharp cheddar cheese
  • 2 ounces cream cheese (half of a 4-ounce package) – softened
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise, divided
  • A pinch of cayenne pepper 1/2 cup drained and coarsely chopped canned pimentos
  • 1 tablespoon Worchestershire sauce
  • Salt and black pepper to taste 12 pieces of white sandwich bread with the crusts cut
  • 6 tbsp. unsalted butter (about 3/4 stick) melted
  • 12 slices of white sandwich bread

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit. Places a rack in the center of the oven and turns it on. While the oven is preheating, place a baking sheet in the middle of the oven’s rack. Using a small pan over medium heat, melt 2 tablespoons of the mayonnaise until it is smooth. Add the onion, dry mustard, and cayenne pepper and cook for approximately 3 minutes, or until the onion has softened. Transfer to a large mixing bowl and set aside. Combine the cheddar cheese, cream cheese, pimentos, Worchestershire sauce, and the remaining 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise in a large mixing bowl. Add extra mayonnaise at this point, based on the desired thickness (approximately 2 to 3 tablespoons), if necessary. Stir until everything is well-combined. Taste and season with salt and black pepper to your liking. Using 6 slices of bread, spread pimento cheese over them and then press the remaining slices on top of them. Melted butter should be brushed over both sides of each sandwich. Using oven-safe mitts, carefully take the preheated baking sheet from the oven and place it on a stovetop burner to keep it warm. Place 6 sandwiches on a baking sheet and bake in the centre of the oven for 15 minutes at 350 degrees. BAKING: BAKE for 4 minutes, or until the sandwiches are golden brown, then remove from the oven and turn them over to the other side, continuing to bake for an additional 2 to 3 minutes. To assemble, remove from the oven and transfer to a cooling rack for about 2 minutes before cutting them diagonally in half or into four triangles. To cut them, use a knife with a sharp, pointed tip. Serve when still heated. This recipe makes 6 sandwiches, or 24 mini sandwiches if you split them into fourths.

Recipe adapted fromMaria Del Mar in her book Winter Cocktails.

Served in little sandwiches with bacon, ranch, and pimento cheese, these are the perfect small piece of Southern food for your next party! Each and every person will like these! So double-check it. Having wanted to sample pimento cheese for at least a year, I finally got my chance this week. I initially noticed it on my buddy Paula’s website, and ever since then, I’ve been asking myself, “When are you going to give it a shot? “Get it done already!” says the voice in my brain. Today, however, is the day for you!

PIN IT FOR LATER REFERENCE!

Now, for those of you who are unfamiliar with pimento cheese (which included myself approximately a year ago), here’s the lowdown.

It is referred to as “the caviar of the South” by locals who adore it.

Pimentos are the bright red bits that are found within green olives.

However, once I discovered that eating pimentos is essentially the same as eating a bell pepper, the game changed.

However, despite the addition of some bacon and ranch spice, this cheese spread is all I hoped it would be and more!

Which basically implies that if you’re coming over to my place for football anytime soon, you can expect to be eating pimento cheese sandwiches as well.

My fantastic buddy Tanya’s new cookbookSandwiched!

Tanya is the author of the cuisine blog Lemons for Lulu, which has garnered a lot of attention.

This novel, on the other hand.

Right.

Tanya’s book contains a plethora of sandwich recipes that may be served all year round, according to her.

You must be famished right now, don’t you think?

It’s possible that one of my favorite aspects of this cookbook is that each dish is two pages long and includes a large, attractive image of the completed product.

And trust me when I say that when I created the filling for this sandwich, it wasn’t orange like Tanya’s, I immediately went to Facebook to seek her for advice.

(There’s also a little remark in the recipe below on how to get the orange color.) Even though it was not game day when I cooked the pimento cheese and all of the sandwiches, it felt like it.

After consuming three of these sandwiches during the preparation and picture shoot (it was lunchtime, what?!

I placed them in a large tupperware container and placed it in the refrigerator.

And that indicates a YES!

Make-a-head bites are one of my favorite snacks.

Place your cold sandwiches on a baking sheet that has been prepared with Silpat and heat them for 6 to 8 minutes.

UGH!

Yeah.

Because, dammit!

Each and every person will like these! Preparation time: 15 minutes 15 minutes is the whole time. CourseAppetizer CuisineAmericanServings 22sandwichesCalories148kcal

  • 1 cup shredded pepper jack cheese
  • 1 cup shredded white cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded Monterey jack cheese
  • 4 ounce container chopped pimentos
  • 1 cup shredded Monterey jack cheese 3 eggs, 1 cup mayonnaise, 1 tablespoon ranch dressing mix (homemade or store-bought), 4 pieces of bacon, cooked crispy and finely diced, 1 loaf pumpernickel bread small cocktail
  • Place all of the ingredients in a large mixing bowl and toss until well combined
  • Add the mayonnaise and ranch dressing mix and stir until well blended. Using a level table, spread 22 slices of pumpernickel bread out on it. Each slice of bread should have roughly 1 level spoonful of pimento cheese spread on it. Spread the cheese along the edges of the bread with the back of a knife or the back of a spoon
  • Place a second slice of bread on top of each sandwich before serving

Instead of purchasing sliced pimentos, get the largest 4 ounce container you can find and cut those bad guys up yourself! The fact that my filling did not turn orange like every other pimento cheese photo I’d seen (even the one in Tanya’s book!) had me completely scared out, but this stuff is delicious! You could use orange cheddar in place of the white cheddar and/or puree everything in a food processor to add even more orange colour, but if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!
