  2. This time around, I used tortillas with sun-dried tomatoes and garden herbs, but there are so many more possibilities available these days.
  3. These wraps are well complemented by the spread, which is spiced with a pinch of dill weed, some onion powder, and garlic powder.
  4. Have you ever seen pinwheel trays that have already been made at your local grocery store?
  5. I spotted one tray that looked very identical to the pinwheels depicted here for $35.00, and it was a great deal!

  • 1- 8-ounce container of softened cream cheese 1/4 cup mayonnaise

DIRECTIONS

  1. Combine the cream cheese, mayonnaise, dill weed, garlic powder, and onion powder in a medium-sized mixing bowl until well combined. Mix until everything is well-combined. A thin layer of the cream cheese mixture should be spread on your tortilla. Spread it out evenly so that it covers the entire tortilla in a thin coating. Place a couple slices of deli ham in the centre of the tortilla, enough to fill the entire width of the tortilla, then fold the tortilla over. Place a layer of cheese on top of the ham, enough to fill the entire width of the tortilla. The meat and cheese are evenly distributed throughout each pinwheel in this manner. Roll the tortilla up as tightly as possible. Discard the ends of the tortilla after cutting a tiny bit off each end
  2. Then cut the remaining wrapped tortilla into 6-8 slices, each approximately 1 inch thick
  3. Enjoy

*I did not specify the quantity of meats or cheeses because it is entirely dependent on personal preference. I used one layer of meat and two different cheeses, but if you like more meat, you may put another layer of meat on top. It all depends on how much meat you choose to consume in relation to how much cheese you eat.

Easy Pinwheel Recipe

This recipe for pinwheels is the best finger food dish! These tortilla roll-ups are ideal for entertaining since they can be made in a variety of ways. One of the most delicious finger food recipes you’ll ever come across? This is a great recipe for pinwheels! For years, we’ve been on the lookout for the perfect rendition of this traditional party drink. That is, until we came across these tortilla roll-ups, which are just what we were searching for! Cheese, sun-dried tomatoes, spinach and a combination of spices give them a distinct Italian flavor, and they’re easy to make.

And, even better, we’ve found out all of the techniques of creating a gorgeous roll up: ours used to come out deformed and depressingly ugly before we figured it out.

Pinwheel recipe ingredients

Most pinwheel recipes feature similar components, but they may be made in a variety of ways to suit your tastes. Pinwheels may be filled with a variety of various ingredients, which makes this dish quite versatile. Here’s what we came up with for our version, however you can see other suggestions for modification farther down the page! The following are the basic components for the pinwheel recipe:

  • Tortillas in the style of a burrito (see below)
  • Cream cheese (or goat cheese, if you want to be more sophisticated! )
  • Cheese that has been shredded Ingredients for the filling: spinach and fire-roasted tomatoes
  • Basil, oregano, and garlic powder are among the spices used.

Tip 1: Buy at least 10-inch tortillas

Tortillas in the manner of a burrito (see recipe below). (Or goat cheese, if you want to dress it up! ) Cream cheese Cheese that has been shredded Spaghetti with fire-roasted tomatoes as filling components Basil, oregano, and garlic powder are some of the spices used.

  • Purchase tortillas that are labeled as burrito size or at least 10-inch in diameter. Make sure you don’t get the huge tortillas that are often used for quesadillas or tacos since they are too little and produce a roll-up with insufficient spirals. What if I am unable to locate them? If you’re planning on serving these to guests, we recommend waiting for big tortillas to be available. For those who aren’t concerned with the appearance of fewer spirals, you can pick any size you like.

Tip 2: Roll the tortillasverytightly

The other piece of advice for making a beautiful pinwheel recipe? Tightly roll the tortillas to prevent them from falling apart. Many roll-up recipes don’t provide instructions on how to roll the pinwheels, which is a common problem. Tortilla roll-ups that are chaotic in appearance will result if you do not pay attention to the rolling process (like ours normally look). Here’s everything you need to know:

  • Apply a thin layer of filling (about 13 cup) on the crust. In order for the filling to be delicious, it must be just enough to taste good without being overpoweringly strong and cheesy. We’ve discovered that this is 13 cup, and then you can top it with any portions of meat, cheese, or vegetables you like. Roll the tortillas as firmly as you can, especially at the beginning of the roll, to prevent them from unraveling. If you don’t pay attention to making a tight roll in the beginning, you’ll end up with a hole in your roll. Then wrap them up as tightly as you possibly can, and they’ll look absolutely stunning.I guarantee

Tip 3: Refrigerate at least 2 hours.

Let me explain: the amount of time spent refrigerating is critical in making a pinwheel recipe. Why? It allows the filling to set before continuing. In order to achieve the desired texture on the pinwheel, it is necessary to do so. The majority of pinwheel recipes recommend chilling for 1 hour, however we found that this was not enough time to get the desired texture. Another benefit of putting the tortillas in the refrigerator for 2 hours is that they absorb some of the moisture from the cheese filling.

How to customize this pinwheels recipe

Okay, now you’ve learned our three most important strategies for making the ideal pinwheels.

However, if you want to be more creative, there are several ingredients to choose from. Following this basic recipe, there are a plethora of variations to try, including the following suggestions:

  • Mexican-style: Spread over salsa, top with black olives or thinly sliced green onions, and replace mozzarella with cheddar cheese or a Mexican mix instead of regular cheese. Alternatively, try this recipe for Mexican Pinwheels. Classic: Filling ingredients include cheddar cheese, ranch dressing to taste, diced red pepper, green onion, and black olives. Pizza pinwheels: Spread pizza sauce over the cream cheese, then top with pizza toppings such as chopped green pepper, red onion, black olives, prosciutto, and other ingredients
  • Roll up and serve. Pinwheels of spinach and artichoke: Prepare the recipe as directed below, except instead of sundried tomatoes, use

As you can see, the sky is indeed the limit! You can also make modifications to this unique pinwheel recipe (below). Upgrade the dish by using goat cheese for the cream cheese and roasting red pepper for the sun-dried tomato for a more sophisticated twist. Fillings can include thinly sliced green onions or any other ingredients you like.

Storage info for tortilla roll ups

One last thing before we hand you over to the authorities. Here’s everything you need to know about storing this pinwheel recipe properly:

  • Refrigerate for up to 3 days after making the dish. However, bear in mind. Over time, the tortillas will get softer. They’re at their finest the day before. The tortillas will continue to absorb moisture from the filling, resulting in them becoming softer. They still taste delicious, but make sure to serve them to visitors as soon as possible.

Description

This recipe for pinwheels is the best finger food dish! These tortilla roll-ups are ideal for entertaining since they can be made in a variety of ways.

  • A total of 6 cups(5 ounces) fresh baby spinach leaves or 12 cup defrosted frozen spinach
  • 4 burrito-size 10-inch* flour tortillas
  • And 1 cup finely chopped sundried tomatoes in oil (or canned roasted red peppers)
  • 12 teaspoon dried basil
  • 12 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 14 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 14 teaspoonkosher salt
  • 3 1/4 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  1. Preparing the spinach: Place the spinach leaves in a pan with 14 cup water and bring to a boil. Cook, tossing periodically, over medium heat for a few minutes, or until the spinach is totally wilted, around 2 to 3 minutes, depending on your preference. Transfer the spinach to a large mixing bowl. Pour in cold water to immediately chill it down, then squeeze out as much water as you can from the container. Prepare the spinach by chopping it finely. (If you’re using frozen spinach, thaw it, wring off the moisture, and finely chop it before using.) Prepare the filling ingredients by chopping them as follows: Chop the sundried tomatoes or bell peppers into small pieces. Prepare the filling by doing the following: Mix together the spinach, sundried tomatoes, cream cheese (or goat cheese), basil, oregano (if using), garlic powder, and salt in a medium-sized mixing bowl. Clean hands are the best tool for breaking up clumps and smoothing out the filling, which we discovered is the easiest method. Taste and season with a sprinkle of salt if necessary
  2. Make the pinwheels by placing a tortilla on a cutting board and spreading it with 13 cup of the filling. Roll the tortilla up tightly. 3 tablespoons of the shredded mozzarella cheese should be sprinkled on top. Tightly roll up the tortilla, paying close attention to how tight the roll is at the beginning (to avoid a hole in the middle!) Repeat the process for all of the tortillas. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, in a tightly sealed container, to enable the filling to firm up. Remove the rolls’ ends and set them aside before slicing them into 3/4-inch slices to form pinwheels. They may be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, but they taste best the day they are made since the tortillas grow softer with time.

*The 10-inch size is the most effective for achieving the nicest appearance for your pinwheels. If at all feasible, we recommend that you get this size! Tortilla roll-ups, pinwheel recipe, Tortilla roll-ups

Ham And Cheese Pinwheels

Whether you call them ham roll-ups or pinwheels, these ham and cheese appetizers are a kid-friendly option for game days, picnics, and other gatherings. They may also be used as a light lunch for the kids on a lazy afternoon! A handful of them may possibly find their way into my morning breakfast rotation because they are so good! I can’t wait to share with you some of my favorite pinwheel recipes I’ve discovered. As you are aware, we are big fans of simplicity in my household. Breakfast, lunch, and supper are all simple affairs.

However, I also enjoy hosting and entertaining, and we frequently have people around, particularly those who have children of a similar age to ours.

Instead, I’ve begun planning gatherings with kid-friendly snacks in mind, and thesepinwheel appetizers are perfect for the occasion!

Pinwheels

Pinwheel canapés have emerged as our current culinary craze. Okay, so maybe the fixation is a little excessive. Because, let’s face it, everyone has eaten a pinwheel appetizer at some time in their lives. To put it another way, they’re basically the finger sandwiches of the adult world. I am overjoyed because I have learned how quick and simple it is to prepare pinwheel wrap recipes, as well as how many different easy pinwheel recipes there are. Plus, my children adore them to pieces! What could possibly go wrong with that?

What Are Pinwheels?

It is likely that you have never heard of pinwheel sandwiches before. You have certainly been missing out! I’m delighted to provide you with more information on these ham pinwheels. To put it simply, a pinwheel is a tortilla shell (you may use standard or flavored tortillas), which is stuffed with a cream cheese filling, meat, vegetables, and slices of cheese.

It is necessary to wrap them up tightly and cut them into bite-sized pieces. Every event calls for one of your favorite pinwheel recipes, and the guests will go crazy for them no matter what you serve them at. Expect to never have any leftovers because they go so quickly!

How to MakeHam And Cheese Pin Wheels (with Pictures):

Whenever I offer my children a ham and cheese sandwich, they turn their noses up because “they eat that all the time” (school lunches, anyone?) Deliver them one of these ham and cheese pinwheels, though, and it’s party time! Let’s not inform them that ham and cheese tortilla roll-ups are created with the exact same components as a ham and cheese sandwich, with the only difference being that the bread is replaced with a tortilla. To make the ideal ham and cheese pinwheels, apply a thin amount of cream cheese on each tortilla and roll it up tightly.

  • This recipe calls for honey ham, which is excellent on these tortilla roll-ups!
  • You might also include other ingredients like as tomatoes, onions, and so on.
  • (It’s what I do.) Add a layer of your preferred cheese on top of the vegetables.
  • Carefully roll the tortilla, securing it with toothpicks to avoid it from unraveling too much.
  • It is preferable to make multiple smaller tortilla roll-ups rather than a single large one.
  • Serve with toothpicks for convenience and to keep everything in place while you’re on the road.

Variations For Ham And Cheese Tortilla Roll Ups

When it comes to ham and cheese tortilla roll-ups, the possibilities are virtually limitless. If you can imagine it, you can probably do it! I guarantee that no matter how you prepare your simple pinwheels, they will be bursting with delicious flavor! Keep in mind that if you are preparing these for both adults and children, you may need to adapt the recipe to suit the needs of each group. Pinwheel appetizers can be served in a variety of ways, some of which are included below.

  • Pork, turkey, roast beef, dried beef, or chicken can be substituted for ham in the recipe. The tastes of the tortilla roll-ups are only enhanced by the addition of numerous proteins. The vegetables can be as simple as lettuce and tomato if you so like, but it is occasionally great to add a little flare to things! Red peppers, sliced mushrooms, green onions, chopped carrots, and red cabbage are all delicious additions to a salad. Olives– It doesn’t matter if you use black or green olives
  • Just cut them finely so that the ham and cheese roll ups may be wrapped fast. Take your pickles to the next level and include sweet, dill, and even butter pickles. We guarantee that the flavor will be out of this world, and you will never forget it
  • Herbs To season the cream cheese, add on some ranch seasoning, fresh dill, Italian spice, or any other seasoning of your choice. So far, so good
  • Bacon– Adding some crumbled, salty bacon to your favorite homemade pinwheels recipe is a certain way to ensure success. Drool-worthy
  • Sugary ingredients can be used to transform these savory ham roll-ups into a delectable sweet confection. Simply spread the cream cheese on top of the biscuits, sprinkle with cinnamon, then top with your favorite jam or jelly. You now have a dessert pinwheel on your hands.

How Long Will Ham And Cheese Tortilla Roll Ups Last?

While I like to have the ham and cheese tortilla roll-ups within 24 hours of creating them, they may be stored in the refrigerated for up to 3 days. It is critical that you store them in an airtight container since they will dry out soon if they are not. When ham tortilla pinwheels are not fresh, no one likes to eat them since they are dry. If you find that the tortilla shells have become extremely hard or slimy, or if there is an odor, the tortillas have gone bad and should be thrown away immediately.

It is possible to become ill, and no one wants to be sick.

Can I Freeze Pinwheels?

If you want to consume pinwheels later on, you may freeze them first and then reheat them. Keep them in an airtight container or bag in the freezer for up to 2 months if you want to be sure they last that long. I prefer to flash freeze all of my simple pinwheel recipes by arranging the cut pinwheels on a baking sheet and storing them in the freezer for 2 hours before serving. You may then transfer them to a freezer-safe bag or container of your choosing after they have been frozen for several hours.

The freezer burn and spoilage will occur if you do not remove the air from the containers.

My recommendation is not to microwave this dish because most of the contents are intended to be served cold and would not taste nice if heated.

TIP: If you wish to freeze this handmade pinwheels recipe, I recommend that you leave out items such as lettuce because they will not freeze very well. To get the greatest results, stick to meats and cheeses.

How Many Pinwheels Do You Get Per Tortilla?

I get between 8 and 12 pinwheels out of each tortilla on average. You may pick how thick to cut them, but try to keep the thickness uniform throughout the tortilla. It’s not always difficult to get some to be a little broader than others. It is my goal to create a few markings so that I can calculate how many cuts I will need to make in advance.

How Do You Keep Wraps From Getting Soggy?

Occasionally, ham and cheese wraps might get soggy due to a lack of moisture in the wraps. While there are no easy solutions to this problem, there are a few things you may do to assist in its resolution. The heart of your favorite pinwheel recipes should contain any component that contains significant amounts of liquid, such as tomatoes or pickles. Dressings should be replaced with richer condiments such as cream cheese. Alternatively, if you’re using dressing, start by arranging the meat and cheese on the plate before spooning over the dressing in a thin layer.

What Condiments Can I Use Besides Cream Cheese For Pinwheel Appetizers?

When it comes to making pinwheel appetizers, you may use any condiment that you like. In this situation, there are no set regulations, which makes it an excellent chance to experiment with your cuisine! You can experiment with as many new concepts as you like. Some of our favorite ways to serve ham roll ups include the following:

  • Mustard– This condiment adds a tangy taste. The addition of ranch dressing makes everything taste better. Pizza Sauce– It provides a playful aspect to the meal while also being quite tasty. Italian Dressing– This dressing is really delicious if you have olives and banana peppers on hand.

Can I Make Pinwheel Sandwiches Vegetarian?

You can absolutely make these pinwheel sandwiches vegetarian by omitting the meat. You are welcome to refrain from eating meat if you have an allergy to it or simply do not enjoy it. Simply increase the amount of cheese and vegetables used. In order to provide a variety of alternatives for my guests when serving quick pinwheels at a party or gathering, I like to create some that are vegetarian.

Which Tortillas Are Best For Making Ham And Cheese Pinwheels?

Tortillas are another area in which you may experiment and test several possibilities to determine which you prefer the most, as well. I often use simple white tortillas or whole wheat tortillas, but there are a variety of different options. I recommend that you try them all because you will not be disappointed. Flavors aren’t overbearing; instead, they’re delicate. Here are a few examples of what I discovered in the market:

  • Other ingredients to experiment with include tortillas. Try a variety of possibilities and decide which you like best before moving onto the next. Instructions

  1. Toss the cream cheese cubes into a mixing dish and set it aside (I used my stand mixer). Combine the green onions, minced garlic, parsley, and sea salt in a mixing bowl. Blend for approximately 3 minutes, or until the entire mixture is thoroughly incorporated and blended
  2. Place the mixture in a tightly covered jar and place it in the refrigerator for an hour. In a well sealed container, it will keep for up to 2 weeks in the refrigerator.

When ready to serve:

  1. Flour tortillas should be laid out on a level surface. The cream cheese mixture should be spread throughout the entire flour tortilla. The deli meats should be stacked on top of one another, thoroughly covering the flour tortilla. Add a layer of lettuce on top, being sure you use enough lettuce to completely cover the deli meat. Each wheat tortilla should be rolled up
  2. To keep the tortilla in place, use toothpicks. The number of toothpicks you use will be determined by how thick you want them to be when finished. Given that I was able to slice 10 pinwheels, I used a total of 10 toothpicks. Tortilla wraps discovery – it was love at first bite

I recall the first time I read a recipe for a pinwheel snack and immediately wanted to try it. Every month, a new Pillsbury cookbook was released, and this recipe was included in one of them. I was under the impression that anything so simple couldn’t possibly be that nice! Was I completely wrong? We were planning a Christmas family party, and I thought, hmmmmm, this would be a great opportunity to try out the wrap recipe. After all, if you aren’t allowed to experiment on your own family, then who are you going to experiment on?

I don’t imagine they even had flavored tortillas back then, let alone that long ago.

Tortilla wraps are simple to cut into pinwheel shapes for a party.

My choice for one of the tortilla pinwheel dishes was smoked salmon wraps with smoked salmon cream cheese and arugula, which I served with arugula.

That notion wasn’t in the small recipe book, and shellfish wasn’t very popular in the household at the time. However, it was a resounding success. The small sandwiches were devoured by everyone, including those who were not fans of fish.

What you need for delicious pinwheel wraps

  • Wraps made with fresh flour that can be simple or spiced. It is critical that they be still fresh since they are more malleable. We utilized a range of delicatessen meats, with the exception of the venison summer sausage, which we made ourselves from scratch. Meat that has been finely chopped will roll up more easily. In a grocery shop, you may purchase flavored cream cheese in the dairy area in the dairy section. You may flavor it yourself, but we found this method to be more convenient. lettuce greens to accompany the meat and cheese – this gives the appetizers a savory and moist texture and flavor. Don’t load them up too much since they won’t roll tightly.

Tortilla pinwheels are a delicious snack that can be made ahead of time and frozen.

  • Southwest chicken (chicken, Ro-Tel tomatoes, cheddar cheese, cream cheese, olives) is a dish that originated in the Southwest. The ingredients for Italian pizza include salami, pepperoni, spicy peppers, parmesan, and cream cheese.

Is it possible to believe all of the stunning variations? I’d like to try each and every one of them. The Reuben sandwich is one of my favorites, but I don’t normally order it in a restaurant since it’s so rich in calories. However, the pinwheel appetizer sounds like it would be perfect. What is the pinwheel-shaped Italian pizza? It also sounds delectable. Which one would you choose if you had to choose? It’s time to get everyone to the table! A heartfelt greeting and best wishes for the future.

Why this recipe works

To serve as finger food for a kid-friendly lunch, to bring to barbeques and potlucks, or to eat as a nutritious snack, pinwheel sandwiches are fantastic options. Basically, they’re constructed with tortillas that are put together with your choice of ham or turkey and bacon and topped with sliced cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, and a cream cheese, ranch, and mayonnaise sauce mixture.

Easy to make as a last-minute snack, these club-style pinwheel sandwiches begin by spreading out a tortilla and filling it with delectable toppings before folding it up and cutting into slices. Organize them in a container, and you’re ready to travel.

Ingredients you will need

All of the measurements, ingredients, and instructions are included in the printed version of this post, which can be found at the bottom of this page.

Ingredient Info and Substitution Suggestions

To make the toppings, you may use whatever type of deli meat you like. You can use turkey, ham, chicken, or any other type of meat you want. Alternatively, you could use a variety of meats and create a few different alternatives for people to pick from; you could also skip the meat completely for a vegetarian pinwheel. The tomatoes are optional, and it is preferable to use them if you want to serve the pinwheels that day because they can cause the tortilla to get soggy if left out for an extended period of time.

Our favorite cheeses to use are colby jack or American cheese, but pepperjack or provolone would also be delicious.

TORTILLA– We use flour burrito tortillas, but you may use whatever type of tortilla you choose, including colorful or flavored tortillas, if you like.

  1. If you are not starting with pre-cooked bacon, you will need to cook it. Prepare the bacon by chopping it into small pieces. Beat the cream cheese with an electric hand mixer until it is light and fluffy. Combine the mayonnaise and ranch seasoning in a mixing bowl. To blend, mix until well-combined. Using a rubber spatula, fold in the chopped bacon until well combined. Prepare the tortillas by laying them out on a flat surface and starting to assemble them. Spread the cream cheese mixture over the tortillas in an equal layer, distributing it evenly across the 10 tortillas. Using three cheese slices, form a line across the top of the cream cheese in the middle of the tortilla
  2. Place deli meat of your choosing on top of the cheese and fold the tortilla in half. Leave a small amount of space at the top of the tortilla since everything will shift as you begin to roll it. In the same manner as you did with the cheese, add the tomato and fresh lettuce. Roll the dough tightly from the bottom up
  3. Place in a casserole dish or cover tightly in plastic wrap and store in the refrigerator, seam side down, until you are ready to slice it up. Each tortilla roll should be sliced to a thickness of about 1 inch, and one tortilla roll should yield around 7-8 pinwheels. If necessary, toothpicks can be used to keep the dish together and to make dipping easier.

Frequently Asked QuestionsExpert Tips

Is it possible to prepare pinwheel sandwiches ahead of time? Sure! Make these pinwheels ahead of time to save time on the big day. Making the pinwheels ahead of time and allowing them to sit in the fridge for a few hours before serving helps them hold their shape on the ends. If you use tomato in your wrap, the longer it sits in the fridge, the more juice comes out and the tortilla will become soggy on the ends, making it a great make-ahead appetizer. The tomatoes should be removed from the ingredient list if you want to make them ahead of time, in my opinion.

Sandwiches made using pinwheels can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 days.

Serving Suggestions

Pinwheel sandwiches are a delicious appetizer that can be served for any occasion. Having them for lunch or as a snack with some fresh vegetables is my favorite way to enjoy them because they’re so simple to cook. Bring them along with you to picnics, potlucks, and backyard cookouts, or offer them as finger food during football games and afternoon tea with your friends and neighbors. A side of dip such as thousand island or ranch dressing should not be overlooked!

If you’re like me, the cream cheese mixed with the pepperoncini and roasted bell peppers on its own with the tortilla was a delectable snack in and of itself, and it makes a fantastic vegetarian alternative as well.

Italian Pinwheels Ingredients

  • Flour tortillas: For these, I prefer to use the large burrito-sized flour tortillas. Make sure they are fresh before using them
  • They will be more cooperative. You may also use a spinach wrap, whole-wheat flatbread, or any other flatbread of your choice. Genoa salami is the recommended kind. It’s recommended to use thin meats for tortilla pinwheel sandwiches since they make it easier to slice them. Make certain that the pepperoni is finely cut once more. Ham: deli ham is ideal for this recipe. These pinwheel appetizers are best served with provolone cheese, but you may use any cheese of your choice, such as pepper jack, cheddar, havarti, or gruyere. It is necessary to use softened cream cheese for this recipe. A excellent alternative to cream cheese is hummus
  • However, if you are not a fan of cream cheese, hummus is a great substitute. Pepperoncini, green leaf lettuce, Italian Dressing, Italian Seasoning, Italian Seasoning Chop up the roasted red bell pepper and put it into the cream cheese spread

Tips for making Italian Pinwheels

  • Making these the day before is highly recommended! Place them in the refrigerator after rolling them up and wrapping them in a spiral. When you’re ready to serve, cut each tortilla into approximately 1-inch pieces. Spread the cream cheese spread evenly over the whole wrap, as this will aid in keeping everything together. Roll the pinwheel as tightly as you can without it breaking. To make it simpler to slice the pinwheels, try cutting them with a serrated knife first.
