When it comes to grilled sandwiches, the Reuben Sandwich is, in my opinion, the pinnacle of culinary achievement. Reuben sandwiches include everything you could possibly desire in a sandwich: melt-in-your-mouth corned beef, sweet and nutty melted Swiss cheese, acidic sauerkraut, and tangy Russian dressing, to name a few ingredients. Every morsel of deliciousness is sandwiched between two slices of chewy, grilled rye bread. I mean, could it really be any better? Would you like to save this recipe?

Despite the fact that a Reuben sandwich is delectable on its own, there are several classic sides that will turn your sandwich into a savory feast.

We’ve taken care of everything.

1.Cream of Potato Soup

Consider the following scenario: It’s really cold outside, and you’ve had a particularly stressful day at work. Having just returned home from your favorite deli, you’re eager to dig into that mouthwatering Reuben you picked up on the way home. It appears to be the ideal way to round off any day. You know what, though: there’s something more that can make things even better. Make sure to serve a large bowl of cream of potato soup with your supper! This well-loved comfort meal will undoubtedly warm your body and spirit, and when combined with the Reuben, it will leave you feeling significantly better.

That’s perfectly acceptable!

The combination of the Reuben with any creamed soup, whether it’s spinach, asparagus, or broccoli, is ideal.

2.Sauerkraut

You should serve a Reuben with a tangy side dish to balance off the richness of the sandwich, which is due to the fact that it is incredibly tasty. It turns out that some fermented cabbage (commonly known as sauerkraut) would be the finest candidate for the task. You may either include sauerkraut into the sandwich or serve it on the side as a condiment. However it is prepared, the sour flavor it imparts will complement the savory flavors of the meat and cheese to a perfect degree. You may use either jarred or canned sauerkraut, but for the best results, cook the sauerkraut in a cast-iron skillet with butter until it begins to brown slightly.

3.Dill Pickle

Pickles and sandwiches are an unavoidable combination. And this is especially true in the case of the Reuben. The sourness of a dill pickle, which follows the same premise as before, serves to cut through the richness of the sandwich. Furthermore, the spiciness of the dill adds a nice contrast to the tastes of the sandwich. As a result, these two make an excellent team. Would you like to save this recipe? If you provide your your address here, we’ll send you the recipe right to your inbox! While it is far more convenient to purchase dill pickles from a supermarket, where is the joy in that?

Pickles aren’t that difficult to make, despite their appearance.

Fill the jar halfway with vinegar and water, then top it with dill fronds, salt, and pepper to your liking. Seal securely with the jar’s lid and place it in the refrigerator for 4 hours. And there you have it! Pickles cooked from scratch that are really delicious.

4.Potato Salad

It’s impossible to go wrong when it comes to sandwich pairings when it comes to a basic potato salad. What more could you want for in a dish that is creamy, substantial, and simple to prepare? For the ideal side to your sandwich, simply coat some cooked potatoes with mayonnaise, sour cream, mustard, pickles, and any veggies you choose, and you’ve got yourself a delicious meal.

5.Coleslaw

This colorful side dish comprised of cabbage and carrots has a mild acidic flavor that is ideal for counteracting the richness of the Reuben sandwich. Whether you choose the traditional mayonnaise dressing or the more refreshing vinegar-based concoction to coat your sandwich, either will taste fantastic with it.

6.Potato Chips

Given that the majority of the ingredients in a Reuben are soft and tender, you’ll want something crunchy to balance things out. Potato chips, after all, are the only thing that fits the description quite nicely. Not only will it provide much-needed crunch to the sandwich, but it’s also a quick and easy method to finish up your entire meal in a one sitting. Instead of lighting a fire or sautéing onions and garlic, grab a package of tortilla chips and you’re ready to go. Instead of purchasing pre-made chips, you may make your own chips at home, which is a more nutritious option.

Enjoy!

7.Sweet Potato Fries

Here’s another way to add some crunch to your Reuben sandwich. Furthermore, because these fries are sweet, they provide a fantastic contrast to the savory flavor of the sandwich. What’s the best part? Unlike traditional French fries, you don’t have to cook these beauties before serving. When baked, they taste really excellent, so there is no need to be concerned about extra oil and grease.

8.Deviled Eggs

While a Reuben sandwich is already a high-protein meal, there’s nothing wrong with boosting the protein content even more. Serve your Reuben with some deviled eggs and you’ll have a supper that is exceptionally rich and creamy! Imagine eating two sandwiches in one: a Reuben sandwich and an egg salad sandwich all rolled into one. Perfect for those days when you simply need a little additional oomph to get through the day.

Instead of frying the chips, this straightforward recipe bakes them. If you’ve never cooked potato chips at home before, this is something you should give a shot; they’ll turn out fantastic. With a mandoline, you can regulate the width of the slices, but if you don’t have one, a cheese slicer or potato peeler will work just as well. I want my chips to be a little bit thicker than the average. Another pro-tip is to make sure that the potatoes are properly dried before baking them by soaking them in cold water for 30 minutes.

2. Potato Leek Soup

In addition to serving as one of the greatest sides for Reuben sandwiches, this warm and hearty soup makes a terrific contrast. The reason it works so well is that the creamy potatoes are great on their own and don’t compete with the rich sandwich ingredients. This is a fantastic combination for a chilly winter’s night; it’s very comfortable!

3. Pickles and Pickled Peppers

A snap of vinegary flavor and crunch are provided by pickled peppers and cucumbers, which are great vegetables to use in the Reuben. There are a variety of pickled peppers and pickle options available at your local grocery store, but preparing your own is surprisingly simple and quick to accomplish.

4. Eggplant Caponata

Here’s a group of people that have the courage to take on Reuben! In Italian cuisine, caponata is a stewed salad made of cooked eggplant, celery, onions, green olives, and capers that is simmered in tomato sauce, olive oil, and herbs. The dressing on this salad is not for the faint of heart, and a little goes a long way, but if you give it a go, you will be pleased you did.

5. Mushroom and Olive Tapenade

Are you debating which side dish to serve with Reuben sandwiches? How about a mushroom and olive tapenade to start things off? To make a rough chop of this nutritious and tasty side dish, put it in your food processor. Green olives, Portobello mushrooms, toasted almonds, and an anchovy fillet together would be delicious on thinly sliced sourdough or rye bread that has been lightly toasted.

6. Spicy Vinegar Coleslaw

This is one of my all-time favorite songs! Coleslaw made with mayonnaise does not appeal to me since I prefer the sharpness of vinegar to the smoothness of mayonnaise. I too enjoy a small bit of heat in my dishes! This recipe calls for green cabbage, shredded carrots, bell pepper, sweet onion, and the peppers of your choosing. If you’re in a hurry, you could use pre-shredded vegetables, but the flavor of freshly sliced cabbage and carrots will be much more noticeable and flavorful. Do you enjoy the heat?

7. Great Kale Salad

To add to our nation’s fixation with kale, here’s a wonderful, straightforward salad that allows the nutritional benefits of this great green to come through.

This recipe calls for Tuscan kale, but any sort of kale will work, and it’s quite nutritious.

8. Broccoli Salad

In the meanwhile, check out this stunning broccoli salad with scallions, red onion, shredded mozzarella cheese, cut-in-half red grapes and sliced almonds, as well as bacon! The recipe specifies that you should not blanch the broccoli since it will become too moist and dilute the dressing. This is one of the few circumstances in which the microwave comes in helpful, but it does exist. Simply microwave the broccoli until it turns a brilliant green hue, then remove from the microwave. Begin with thirty seconds and see how it goes from there.

9. Giardiniera

The gardener is referred to in this context, and it’s easy to see why. This is a collection of pickled veggies that were harvested directly from the garden. Carrots, bell peppers, celery, cauliflower, and gherkins are some of the most common vegetables used. If you prepare your own, you may pick and choose which vegetables to include to make it more intriguing. I’d like to experiment with baby corn and okra, because why not? What do you think would be a good idea?

10. Onion Rings

With this in mind, it’s no surprise that this is translated as “gardener.” Pickled veggies directly from the garden make up this delicious combination of pickled vegetables. Cauliflower, gherkins, and carrots are among the vegetables commonly used. Make your own and you may customize it by using different vegetables to make it more appealing. Baby corn and okra sound interesting, so I’ll give them a go! Do you have any ideas on what you’d want to do?

11. Vinegar Steak Fries

I used to add vinegar to thick-cut steak fries after they were already cooked, but did you know that you can cook potatoes in vinegar and the vinegary goodness would be infused into the potatoes? I didn’t know that until recently. When I discovered this, I said to myself, “Eureka!” What was I thinking when I didn’t realize it earlier? In this delicious dish, the potatoes are first cooked in vinegar before being baked in the oven to complete. Fill large olives with the filling of your choice using a piping bag and a pastry bag. What is a good accompaniment to Reuben sandwiches? These! The following recipe provides three different ways to prepare stuffed olives. Combine goat cheese, herbs, pickled garlic, and peppers in a large mixing bowl. 13. Salad With Pickled Veggies

This salad contains a wonderful combination of fresh greens and pickled vegetables, as well as several of my personal favorites! Beets, red onions, radishes, fennel (my favorite! ), carrots, and cucumbers are among the vegetables on the menu. These wonderful pickled vegetables are then served atop arugula or rocket, which is another popular choice.

The creamy goat’s cheese, walnuts, and freshly cut parsley finish off this salad perfectly. Check out personal trainer Kayla Itsines’ website for nutritious recipes that can help you get a bikini figure in no time.

14. Traditional Potato Salad

A classic recipe like this one hasn’t appeared on my radar in a very long time. I think it’s a classic, and it would be a great accompaniment to your Reuben sandwich. A vinegary potato salad would normally be my recommendation, but this one takes you back to the days when you could use both mayonnaise and bacon oil in the same dish without anybody seeing the difference.

15. Crunchy Green Salad With Goat Cheese and Mixed Seed Praline

Oh, this is a really fantastic one. Choice of greens, spicy sauce, creamy goat cheese, and crisp veggies round out this dish. The seed praline is quite delicious, with a great deal of taste and texture. This salad is a delectable delicacy that you must try!

Reuben Sandwich II

I followed the recipe pretty exactly, although I did include some of the tips from the reviewers. It’s important to note that I did not rinse the sourkraut since we enjoy the acidic flavor of the sourkraut. On one side of the rye bread slices, I applied Thousand Island dressing, and on the other, I buttered the pieces. A slice of swiss cheese was placed on the dressing side, followed by thinly sliced Pastrami from the deli, and then a dollop of sourkraut on top. I grilled them on my George Foreman grill until the cheese was melted and the bread was well toasted, about 10 minutes total.

My four-star rating was deducted because the sourkraut in the centre of the dish wasn’t particularly hot.

If you enjoy Rueben sandwiches, you’ll enjoy this one even more!

I work as a grill chef at Cracker Barrel, and while the Reuben is one of the most time-consuming dishes to prepare during a busy period, it does not take nearly 45 minutes to complete the preparation. From beginning to end, it may take no more than 5 minutes. If this recipe proves to be successful for you, then great. We, on the other hand, operate in a completely different manner. We begin by putting roughly 1/4 cup sauerkraut (we never measure it; we just grab some) on the grill, followed by a package of chip corn beef that is nearly the same amount as the sauerkraut on top of that.

After the sauerkraut and beef have been cooked for a minute or two, we spread the mixture on one piece of bread and spread the 1000 island dressing on the second piece of bread.

What is a Reuben Sandwich?

Corned beef, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and Russian dressing are sandwiched between two pieces of rye bread, which is grilled until the bread is crispy and the cheese is melted, creating a typical Reuben sandwich. Despite the fact that the sandwich may be eaten hot or cold, we like to serve it hot. The meat is cooked, the cheese melts, and the acidic dressing seeps into the sauerkraut, resulting in an enticing grilled sandwich with sauerkraut and tangy dressing.

What Ingredients go on a Reuben Sandwich?

  • MEAT-Store-bought corned meat (deli dept.) or leftover corned beef from a previous meal
  • SAUERKRAUT-Either homemade sauerkraut or store-bought sauerkraut will do
  • DRESSING-Tangy Russian dressing created from scratch
  • CHEESE-Swiss cheese is the most common type of cheese utilized.

How to Make a Reuben Sandwich?

  1. The Russian dressing is simple to make
  2. Simply whisk it together. Each piece of bread should be brushed with butter on one side. Sandwich the dressing, corned beef, sauerkraut, and cheese between two slices of bread and seal it up to form a sandwich. Make a grilled cheese sandwich by grilling both sides of the bread pieces until the cheese melts and the bread slices are crispy.

How to Make Russian Dressing?

While it is possible to purchase Russian dressing or even substitute with Thousand Island dressing in lieu of making your own, the handmade dressing is so much better and so much easier to create.

  • Pour all ingredients into a large mixing bowl and whisk until well combined. Add the mayo and whisk until creamy. Add the creamy horseradish and whisk until creamy
  • Add the garlic and whisk until creamy again.

TIPS for Making a Reuben-

  • Bread-Be careful to use a high-quality rye bread for this recipe since it adds a lot of flavor to the sandwich. To prevent the sandwich from becoming soggy, drain as much moisture from the sauerkraut as you possibly can before using it. TIP-If you don’t care for sauerkraut, you may substitute cole slaw for it. To make garlic butter, spread it on the bread slices before baking the sandwich. If you really enjoy garlic, add some garlic powder over the butter spread before baking the sandwich. Meat-Although corned beef is the traditional meat used in a Reuben, pastrami can be substituted. If you have a panini press or a griddle, you may use it to cook the sandwich instead of a skillet if you don’t have one. Dressing-The dressing contains a moderate amount of heat due to the use of chili garlic sauce. If you don’t like spicy meals, you may adjust the amount of sauce you use to your liking.

In addition to being a filling lunch option, this Reuben Sandwich is also a tasty evening option when served with Baked Potato Wedges.
