Cucumber Sandwiches – the Dos and Don’ts

Originally intended to be a lighthearted meal, this cucumber sandwich with cream cheese turned out to be a serious recipe rather quickly. Well, at least in terms of relative value. I’ve consumed a significant number of sandwiches over my life — around 8000, according to the calculations I used in my avocado sandwich recipe. That was two years ago, by the way! Despite the fact that I have reduced my consumption of sandwiches, I still like a decent sandwich when it is made well. And cucumber sandwiches are up there with the greatest of the best in the world.

Be prepared to pass all scrutiny

In the first place, the bread should be exceptionally soft. White flour is more conventional, while wholegrain flour is quite acceptable. That which is vital is the suppleness. Second, the cream cheese and butter should be spread generously on a baking sheet. This is a sumptuous sandwich that is not recommended for those who are health-conscious. Third, the cucumber should be finely sliced and free of any skin before serving. A small amount of salt and pepper should be used since too much can soon become overwhelming.

You may choose to remove the crusts off the cucumber sandwich if you choose.

What a waste of perfectly good bread.

That being said, if you have a favorite dog, child, or servant who is willing to eat the bread, go ahead and eat your heart out.

Anything else?

  • At the end of the day, cucumber sandwiches should be served in the most attractive manner possible. This will work well if you have a silver platter on hand. In any case, the ‘excellent china’ will suffice in a pinch. Although visitors at spontaneous picnics in the yard are permitted to eat from paper plates, a decent cucumber sandwich should never be served on a paper plate. You should be able to prepare the greatest cucumber sandwiches with cream cheese you’ve ever eaten now that you’ve gained the necessary expertise. So go ahead and bask in the glory of your accomplishments and guest-pleasing adoration. Cucumber Sandwiches with Cream Cheese for High Society

Cucumber Sandwiches

Cucumber Sandwiches are an excellent complement to any tea party, wedding shower, or Mother’s Day brunch menu. They’re made with only a handful of ingredients, and they’re simple, fresh, and really tasty. Cucumber sandwiches are common during tea parties, and if you’ve ever gone to one, chances are you’ve eaten one or two. They’re a must-have on every tea party menu, and with good cause! They’re delicate, exquisite, and everything else that comes to mind when you think of afternoon tea time. Furthermore, they are really simple to prepare at home.

Their popularity can be traced all the way back to the 1800s, when the ritual of afternoon tea was first established in Britain.

They are no longer restricted to tea parties in terms of appeal.

And this simple dish is one of our all-time favorites. It blends crisp English cucumbers with a lemon dill cream cheese spread to create the best taste combination that everyone will enjoy.

Cucumber Sandwich Ingredients

White bread is commonly used to make cucumber sandwiches, which is why this is the case. To make the sandwiches, you’ll want to use a soft white sandwich bread, and you’ll need around 10 pieces total. In this dish, the cucumbers are the most important component to use. Look for a strong texture and a dark green tint in the leaves of the plant. I selected English cucumbers for this recipe because they are seedless and tend to be less watery than other cucumbers, making them ideal for sandwiches.

  1. As an alternative, you can use your preferred flavor as a substitution.
  2. Cream cheese may be made a little more creamy and less thick by mixing in mayonnaise to the cream cheese mixture.
  3. Fresh dill- The exquisite flavor of the cream cheese layer is derived from the use of fresh dill.
  4. Lime juice- I added 1 tablespoon of lemon juice to the cream cheese filling to help bring it back into balance and give it a little more zing.
  5. Seasonings- The best part about this dish is that it just calls for three basic seasonings: garlic powder, salt, and pepper to complete it.

How to make Cucumber Sandwiches

In a small mixing dish, combine softened cream cheese, mayonnaise, dill, lemon juice, garlic powder, and salt. Refrigerate until ready to use. To thoroughly combine the ingredients, use a hand mixer or a spoon. Peel and slice the cucumber- Using a mandoline or a sharp knife, peel and slice the cucumber into 1/8 inch slices. Remove the crusts- Cut the crusts off of the bread so that it can be cut into rectangles. Assemble and cut the sandwiches- Spread about 1 spoonful of cream cheese filling onto each piece of bread for each sandwich.

Stack the second piece of bread on top of the first, then gently cut it into four triangles or four squares.

Make-ahead tips

Making these sandwiches ahead of time may be a good idea. My best recommendation is to prepare the separate components first, and then combine them just before you’re ready to serve them to your guests. It is possible to make the filling, peel and slice the cucumbers, and take off the crusts of the bread up to one day ahead of time, and then store them separately until you are ready to use them. Make sure that the cream cheese mixture is softened before spreading it over the bread slices.

How to keep a Cucumber Sandwich from getting soggy

In order to prevent your cucumber sandwiches from becoming mushy, there are a few basic guidelines to follow. Because their seeds are smaller than those of typical cucumbers, English cucumbers have a lower water content than regular cucumbers, which is the first step. Before putting the cucumber slices on the sandwiches, sprinkle them with salt and lay them out on paper towels to enable any excess moisture to drain before putting them on the sandwiches.

(*If you want to go this way, you may want to leave out the salt from the cream cheese filling.) In order to create a barrier between the cucumbers and the bread, put cream cheese over both pieces of bread.

Cucumber Sandwiches

My family is made up of four children, and I am the youngest. When my siblings and I were younger and growing impatient, my mother would occasionally distract us with “party sandwiches.” They could have been prepared with just about anything, such as peanut butter and jelly or tuna salad, but she added a festive touch by taking off the crusts and cutting them into triangles before baking. Voila! Sandwiches for a party! On occasion, we would have a real tea party, complete with juice served in teacups.

And radishes, and cream cheese and jelly, and watercress, to name a few ingredients.

With her encouragement, we devoured the entire batch of cucumber sandwiches, and I must admit that I’ve developed a like for cucumber sandwiches myself.

I’m not sure if it’s because of the memories, the sandwich, or a combination of the two.

What Is a Cucumber Tea Sandwich?

The youngest of four children, I hail from a large family. I remember my mother occasionally distracting us with “party sandwiches” when we were little and impatient. The filling could have been anything—peanut butter and jelly or tuna salad, for example—but she added a festive touch by taking off the crusts and cutting them into triangles. Voila! Snacks for the crowd. We used to have a real tea party, complete with juice served in teacups, every now and then. The cucumber sandwiches made by Mom were very popular.

Swaps, Substitutions, and Suggestions

In this scenario, less is more. There are no hard and fast laws, but in general, less is more. Make a selection of one or two and combine them to provide a little diversity to your choices.

  • Mint provides a burst of sunny freshness. Watercress adds a strong, peppery touch to the dish. Lemon juice or zest, a few drops here and there, will give your dish a zesty zing. Cucumber cream cheese sandwiches are frequently topped with dill, which is one of the most typical toppings. Flat-leaf parsley or chives are other excellent additions to this dish. If you’re hosting vegan visitors, another alternative is to use dairy-free butter. Combine the veggies in a large mixing bowl. If you don’t have cucumbers on hand, radishes will suffice.

Make-Ahead Finger Sandwiches

Because cucumbers are fluid, it is recommended to assemble the sandwiches within a few hours before serving to avoid the sandwiches getting soggy and mushy. Nonetheless, there are a few things you can do in advance so that you don’t have to rush to do everything at the last minute. One day ahead of schedule:

  • Place slices of bread between layers of plastic wrap or parchment paper, then spread with either butter or cream cheese. Wrap the stack in plastic wrap and place it in the refrigerator until you are ready to assemble it. Slice the cucumbers, season them with salt, and place them on a baking sheet in the refrigerator, tightly wrapped in plastic wrap

The day on which you will be serving:

  • Once the dish is completed, wrap it in waxed paper and then a moist paper towel before storing it in an airtight container until it is time to serve it.

How to Serve Cucumber Sandwiches for a Party

Place the sandwiches on serving dishes. In the event that they are to be served as part of a buffet, arrange them on a cake plate or a beautiful silver tray. Use multiple cake stands of varied sizes to position the buffet table so that platters are at varying heights. This is one of the most common catering tricks used today. You may make your own cake stands by stacking attractive dishes on top of upside-down bowls and setting them on a cake stand stand.

Given how rapidly the bread dries up, it’s best to serve the sandwiches in batches, replenishing the platters as the quantity of sandwiches diminishes. Sally Vargas is a woman who lives in the United States.

To make it easier to put on the bread pieces if you opt to use cream cheese instead of butter, combine the cream cheese with a few tablespoons of mayonnaise before spreading it on the bread slices. For a total of four sandwiches

  • English cucumber, peeled and finely sliced (half an English cucumber)
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt, with more salt as required
  • 8 slices white bread, such asPepperidge Farm Very Thin White, or similar
  • Unsalted butter or cream cheese, melted at room temperature
  • 4 teaspoons one-eighth teaspoon freshly ground white or black pepper Watercress, mint leaves, lemon zest, dill, chives, or parsley are optional additions.

Sandwiches for a Get-together (about 80 mini sandwiches)

  • Englishcucumbers that have been peeled and finely sliced 1/2 teaspoon salt, plus more salt as required
  • 40 slices white bread, such asPepperidge Farm Very Thin White
  • 40 slices brown bread, such asPepperidge Farm Very Thin White
  • 40 slices brown bread, such asPepperidge 2 sticks (8 ounces) unsalted butter or cream cheese, melted at room temperature (see Recipe Note)
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground white or black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground white or black pepper Watercress, mint leaves, lemon zest, dill, chives, or parsley are optional additions.
  1. Salt the cucumbers (NOTE: If you’re just preparing 4 sandwiches for lunch, you can skip this step and simply sprinkle the cucumbers with salt instead.) Prepare a baking sheet by lining it with paper towels and spreading the cucumbers on top of them. Place a little sprinkle of salt on top and let aside for 20 minutes. More paper towels can be used to dry them. Taste the slices and season with extra salt if they are too bland to your liking. Sally Vargas is a woman who lives in Los Angeles. Toss in the spread: Place the bread pieces on a cutting board and generously spread the butter or cream cheese on one side of each slice of bread. If your bread slices are the same size as mine, you will only need roughly 1-2 tablespoons of butter each piece. Lay the cucumbers on the bread in the following order: Sally Vargas Place the cucumbers on half of the bread pieces, overlapping them to completely cover the bread. If the cucumbers are extremely thin, stack them in two layers
  2. If they are thick, put them in one layer. To make the cucumber filling, slice the cucumbers into 1/4-inch thick slices. Pepper should be sprinkled on the cucumber slices. If you’d like, you may garnish the cucumbers with one of the optional items listed above. Place a second slice of bread on top of the first. Sally Vargas’s lunch was cut into little pieces: Remove the crusts by pressing down firmly on them and then cutting them into rectangles, triangles, or quarters. Maintain a tidy appearance! 3. To be served by: To serve, arrange the ingredients on platters (or on your dish).

It may seem absurd, but it is actually a small reward to yourself for your efforts. The gift of self-care in the form of a nutritious and delicious meal. • As a starting point for this meal, I made a rustic version of Aubrey’s English Tea Cucumber Sandwiches.

A cucumber sandwich is a delicious and healthy option for brunch, lunch, or afternoon tea. It’s really simple, but more importantly, it’s absolutely tasty. The addition of cream cheese takes it to the next level! Many years ago, I provided a recipe for cucumber and cream cheese sandwich rolls made using lavash bread, which I thought you would find interesting. Because I am an Amazon Associate, I receive money when people make eligible purchases. It was back when I first started blogging and had no idea what I was doing, so I decided to publish something my kids would enjoy.

  1. There’s something inherently satisfying about a cucumber sandwich.
  2. The absence of a cucumber sandwich on my tea tray would leave me feeling quite unhappy, nay, I know I would be crestfallen in such situation.
  3. Although there are only three components to this famous sandwich, the quality of the ingredients, as well as the manner in which it is prepared and constructed, makes all the difference.
  4. Cucumbers from the farmer’s market or homegrown produce will have the finest flavor.
  5. English cucumbers are the traditional choice for tea sandwiches, although any thinly sliced cucumber would suffice in this situation.
  6. However, if you locate it at your local grocery shop and can afford it, get it!
  7. Some recipes call for you to prepare a cream cheese combination and to incorporate additional ingredients such as fresh dill, but that’s not my cup of tea (no pun intended).
  8. Instead of dill, you’ll want to experience these other flavors.
  9. Afternoon tea in Tatton Park in the United Kingdom.

When making your own bread, it might be difficult to get the soft, yet firm loaf that is required for these sandwiches; nevertheless, this is not impossible. You’ve made something genuinely unique after the crusts are removed, but don’t throw them away since they make excellent snacks for men! Haha!

How do you Make a Cucumber Sandwich?

Written by Christina Conte This recipe makes 8 finger sandwiches. DOWNLOAD THE COMPLETE PRINTABLE RECIPE BELOW.

  1. Peel and finely slice the cucumber after it has been peeled. My simpleOXO portable mandoline slicer made rapid and uniform slices with little effort.

Cream cheese should be spread on two slices of toast. 3. Arrange the cucumber slices on one slice of bread, slightly overlapping them, and then top with the second slice of bread.

How to Cut Cucumber Tea Sandwiches

4. Using a sharpserrated knife, slice away the edges, cleaning the blade with a moist paper towel between each cut. After that, cut into fingers (or triangles). You’ll end up with two finger sandwiches, regardless of whether you cut them into fingers or triangles. That’s all there is to it! So simple, isn’t it?

How to Keep the Sandwiches from Getting Soggy

If you need to prepare cucumber sandwiches ahead of time, place them in a tightly sealed container and place them in the refrigerator for a few hours. Alternatively, you may place a paper towel on top of them to absorb any excess moisture. Make sure they are not too cold before serving them by taking them out of the fridge approximately half an hour before serving them. You shouldn’t keep this cucumber sandwich recipe to use simply for an afternoon tea party or a baby shower in the refrigerator.

If you’re packing them in lunches or eating them with a cup of soup at home, you don’t even have to take off the crusts.

Please let me know what you think if you make these delicious cucumber sandwiches; I believe you will like them as much as I do!

Ingredients

  • 4 pieces thinly sliced white bread (or any other bread of your choice)
  • 2 ounces room temperature cream cheese
  • 12 tiny cucumbers, thinly sliced

Instructions

  1. Peel and finely slice the cucumber after it has been peeled. In order to make rapid and consistent slices, I used a basic OXO slicer. Two pieces of bread should be spread with soft/room temperature cream cheese. Place the cucumber slices on one slice of bread, gently overlapping them, and then top with the second slice of bread
  2. Using a sharp serrated knife, slice away the edges, cleaning each cut with a moist paper towel when it is completed. After that, cut into fingers (or triangles). You’ll end up with two finger sandwiches, regardless of whether you cut them into fingers or triangles. To prepare cucumber sandwiches ahead of time, place them in a tightly sealed container with a paper towel inside for a few hours before refrigerating them.

Notes

Make sure they are not too cold before serving them by taking them out of the fridge approximately half an hour before serving them.

Cucumber Sandwiches Recipe

This post may contain affiliate links; for more information, please check my privacy policy. This cucumber sandwich dish is a simple snack meal that only requires four ingredients to prepare! These small sandwiches will soon become one of your favorite appetizers, and they are the perfect item to bring to any party or get-together. Years ago, my sister-in-law introduced me to this recipe, and I knew right away that I had to share it with you because it’s THAT amazing! To say that I became fascinated with them after my first bite would be an understatement.

I had to leave since it was too simple to eat much too many of them in a short period of time. This recipe for beautiful little cucumber sandwiches has quickly become one of my go-to recipes for tea party appetizers. Cucumber sandwiches may be made using only four components, which are as follows:

  • This recipe calls for rye bread, which is often offered near the deli counter and is known as “cocktail bread,” but you could use any bread and cut it into little pieces. Cucumbers– I prefer to use seedless English cucumbers for this recipe. Cream cheese– this is best served at room temperature
  • Feel free to substitute low-fat cream cheese if desired. Make careful you obtain the powdered ranch dressing mix, rather than the liquid variety
  • A packet of ranch dressing mix

If you want to go all out with the toppings, there’s a fifth element to consider. You can always garnish the sandwiches with a sprig of dill to take them to the next level. What is the best way to cook these cucumber sandwiches?

  1. Combine the ranch seasoning packet with the cream cheese
  2. Set aside. Using a slice of bread, spread the layer
  3. To finish, slice the cucumber and arrange it on top of the bread/cream cheese combination. For garnish, add one or two leaves of dill (optional).

So easy to make, and so great to eat! I enjoy bringing these cucumber sandwiches to get-togethers. They are really simple to prepare in large quantities, and everyone enjoys them. These are the perfect sandwiches for a wedding shower or a tea party-themed party – and don’t forget to include an amimosa bar to make the occasion even more enjoyable for everyone. I assure you that this recipe for cucumber sandwiches will quickly become a favorite of yours to cook again and again. Easy to make, tasty, and only requires 5 ingredients.

  • 1 pound cream cheese 1 pound cream cheese a package of 8 ounces
  • Stored at ambient temperature
  • Ranch seasoning blend (one packet) 1/4 cup fresh dill piecesoptional, for topping
  • 1 package mini rye bread slices (also known as cocktail bread)
  • 2 cucumberspeeled and sliced (I prefer English seedless cucumbers)
  • 1/2 packet Ranch DIP mix
  • 1 package tiny rye bread slices (also known as cocktail bread)
  • Combine the cream cheese and Ranch seasoning mix in a mixing basin. Spread a thin layer of mayonnaise on a piece of bread using a knife, then top with a slice of cucumber
  • Garnish with a fresh piece of dill if desired. Continue until all of the sandwiches have been created.

Cucumber sandwiches have a regal ring to them, don’t they? They seem to belong at an exquisite afternoon tea, served on beautiful porcelain plates amid hot teacups and lovely miniature cakes, and it’s impossible not to imagine them in that setting. The fact is that they’re not particularly elaborate or difficult when you stop to think about them. White bread with the crusts taken off, butter or cream cheese, and thin slices of peeled cucumber are all that are required to prepare these sandwiches.

However, you can make do with the usual sort by spreading a generous amount of cream cheese on top of the bread to preserve it.) So there’s really nothing stopping you from eating this dish for lunch any day of the week.

A hot cup of tea to accompany it is optional, but it’s a great idea anyway.

Cucumber Sandwich

This easy Cucumber sandwich dish is ideal for preparing as a light snack or lunch for a small group of people. Make it quickly and easily at home with your favorite ingredients, like as tomatoes, cheese, and/or fresh herbs, to make it your own. Preparation time: 10 minutes Cooking Time: 0 minutes Time allotted: 10 minutes

  • 1 cucumber (regular or English)
  • 1 cucumber (regular or English)
  • 12 to 14 pieces of bread (whole wheat, brown bread, or white bread)
  • 12 to 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper (or to taste)
  • 12 to 1 teaspoon freshly ground white pepper Butter– salted to taste as required. It is OK to use unsalted butter
  • Saltas are essential but optional.
  • Cucumber should be rinsed and peeled. Remove the cucumber slices from the pan and put them aside. Remove the crusts off the bread and set them aside. It is possible to pulse or grind these crusty bread pieces to make bread crumbs. Remove the bread from the oven without cutting off the crusts
  • You may omit this step. Spread the salted butter on both sides of the sandwiches equally. Spread butter generously on both sides of the sandwiches to prevent them from becoming soggy. Place 6 to 8 cucumber slices on a piece of buttered toast from each pair of shoes
  • When necessary, season with freshly crushed black pepper. A pinch of salt is also sprinkled on top, followed by the remaining buttered slices. Then, using a sharp knife, cut the cucumber sandwiches into rectangles or triangles. Cucumber sandwiches should be served promptly. If you want, you may serve these sandwiches with a mayonnaise dip, a cheesy dip, or tomato ketchup on the side. Fresh sandwiches with your favorite chutney or sauce to dip them in are a treat.
  • More options for toppings and garnishes: Use fresh vegetables like tomato slices, fresh sprouts, bits of red onion, slices of avocado, and leafy greens like watercress or arugula to dress up your salad. Use cream cheese, mayonnaise, herbed goat cheese spread, or any other spreadings you choose in place of the melted butter. Prepare ahead of time: These sandwiches are at their finest when they are made and eaten right away, within an hour or two of being made. If you aren’t going to serve them straight soon, you might want to put them in the refrigerator for a while. But not for too long, because otherwise they’ll get soggy and mushy. If you’re serving the cucumbers later, place them in a tray and sprinkle some salt over them. Set aside for 10 to 15 minutes to allow flavors to blend. Dry the dish with a clean kitchen towel afterward to eliminate any remaining moisture
  • Adapting the Recipe: This recipe yields around 6 to 7 sandwiches. To make a large number of cookies that are excellent for sharing at parties and picnics, you may easily double or quadruple the recipe as necessary.
