The following is the general procedure for making Philly roast pork: from the very top left to the very top right: Seasonings should be chopped and added to the top of the meat before rolling and tying the meat, then wrapping it in plastic wrap and refrigerating it for at least 6 hours or overnight.

  • Provolone cheese, 2 pieces each sandwich
  • Loose rolls or baguette parts, 1 per person
  • Roasted peppers or long hots (or both! )

For the meat:

  • Carefully remove the fresh meat from its packaging and place it flat on a clean, dry surface
  • Season both sides with the seasoning components (salt, black pepper, herbs, garlic, and olive oil) and bake for 30 minutes (see herb note). I always add salt first, so that it has a chance to thoroughly soak into the meat. Using butcher or kitchen twine, bind the roast in half (if using a deboned roast
  • Otherwise, no fold or roll is required) and cover it snugly in plastic wrap before placing it in the refrigerator for resting. Allow the meat to absorb the flavorings for a minimum of 6 hours and up to overnight before serving. Before cooking, remove the roast from its packaging and allow it to come to room temperature for around 45 minutes. Preheat the oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit in the meantime. During the time that the oven is preheating, start browning the meat on the stove top. Prepare the roast on the stovetop by coating the bottom of a big skillet with olive oil and browning it on both sides. Pork shoulder is ideal for shredded pork sandwiches, such as pulled pork; however, for a roasted pig sandwich, you will require a much leaner cut of pork such as loin. Instead, a pork loin is the best choice. It is tasty while remaining lean, and it is less costly than a tenderloin.

How to Roast Pork Loin

Using the oven, roast pork loin for approximately one hour at 350 degrees. Grilling pork loin for sandwiches is one of my favorite methods of preparing it. Grilled pork loin is not significantly more complicated to prepare than oven-roasted pork loin, but it is incomparably more tasty. It is strongly recommended that you give it a go.

Roasted Pork Sandwich Toppings

You can absolutely make your roasted pork sandwich your own by adding the toppings of your choosing, but I’d be pleased to share a couple of my personal favorites. On this sandwich, the sweetness of caramelized onions really shines through, while sauteing or grilling onions is also a fantastic option for onions. The flavor of stone ground mustard is one of my favorite pairings with pork, so I created a stone ground honey mustard to go with this dish. How to Make Roasted Pork Sandwiches Better

To make a delicious sandwich, you need to do more than just pile toppings on top of bread. Adding a few more steps will convert your sandwich into a dinner that rivals that of a fine dining establishment. I recommend toasting the bread in particular since it adds texture and warms the bread, which results in superior flavor. I also recommend broiling the sandwich (open faced) for a few seconds to rapidly melt the cheese. Keep an eye on it, though, to ensure that it does not burn.

  • 2l A loaf of crusty French bread (enough to serve 8 people)

Stone Ground Honey Mustard

  • 14 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 teaspoons stone ground mustard
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1/8 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Rub the pork loin with cooking oil and season with salt and pepper, or any other ingredients you choose, before baking. Place the pan in the oven and roast for approximately 1 hour, or until a digital thermometer registers 145 degrees. While the pig is roasting, prepare the onions by sautéing, grilling, or caramelizing them. (See the footnote.) Remove the pork loin from the oven and set it aside for 10 minutes to rest. Meanwhile, while the pork loin is resting, slice open the French bread and lightly toast the interior until it begins to brown. Serve immediately. To achieve this, place your bread in the toaster, a hot pan, or under the broiler. Finely slice the pork and set it on top of the French bread, followed by a layer of Provolone cheese. Using the sandwich opened up, place it briefly under the broiler set to High for a few seconds until the cheese is melted. Remove the chicken from the broiler and top with onions and honey mustard before serving right away.

Stone Ground Honey Mustard

  • While the pork is roasting, make the honey mustard by mixing the mayonnaise, mustard, honey, and ground pepper in a small dish
  • Set aside.

If desired, season the pork loin with your favorite seasonings before cooking it. Caramelized onions taste nicest in my view.
