Grilled Chili-Cheese Spread Sandwiches Recipe

A lot of people were excited by myGrilled Pimento Cheese, Ham, and Homemade Picklesrecipe when it was first published earlier this year. However, there was also some doubt about it. The Southern spread, whose recipe (which is frequently guarded more closely than great-great-great-silver grandma’s punch bowl) differs from family to household, is a source of considerable discussion and disagreement. Is it up to par? Is it “terrible muck,” as one Serious Eater put it, or is it something else? If you think this is muck, move along because what you’re about to see is a spin on the original.

An appealing feature of the original pimento cheese is the variety of sauces and flavors it contains: dry mustard, Worcestershire sauce, cayenne pepper, hot sauce and other ingredients.

Because the foundation of pimento cheese spread (at least my recipe) is a basic cream cheese, cheddar cheese, and mayonnaise mixture that is mixed together by hand, it allows for the inclusion of more or less components to suit one’s personal preference.

Despite the fact that the smooth, spreadable texture stays the same, the tastes are a little more intense and spicy this time around.

Note: Chipotle cheese may be prepared up to 1 week ahead of time and kept in a closed container in the refrigerator.

  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 2 jalapenos, cut in half and with the stems, seeds, and ribs removed
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper 2 poblano peppers, split in half, with the stems, seeds, and ribs removed
  • 2 poblano peppers, split in half, with the stems, seeds, and ribs removed
  • Mayonnaise, 2 tablespoons finely grated yellow or white onion, 2 medium cloves minced garlic (approximately 2 teaspoons), and 2 teaspoons dry mustard are all you need to make this dish. 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 2 cups (8 ounces) shredded extra-sharp white cheddar cheese
  • 4 ounces melted cream cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper. 1/3 cup drained jarred or canned piquillo peppers, coarsely diced. 8 slices of country-style bread (1/2-inch thick), toasted
  1. Cook the oil in a large pan over medium-high heat until it shimmers, about 5 minutes. Cook, covered and stirring once halfway through cooking, lowering heat if it appears to be burning, until chilies are spotty black and softened, approximately 10 minutes. Remove from the pan to a chopping board. When the chilies are cool enough to handle, coarsely chop them and throw them in a large mixing bowl. With a paper towel, wipe out the skillet. Melt 2 tablespoons mayonnaise in a pan that has been left empty over medium heat. Cook, stirring constantly, for approximately 2 minutes, or until the onion is tender and translucent. Fry for about 30 seconds, or until the garlic, dry mustard, and cumin have become aromatic. Transfer to a mixing bowl with the chiles and allow to cool to room temperature, about 5 minutes. Combine the chili mixture with the cheddar cheese, cream cheese, piquillo peppers, Worcestershire sauce, and an extra 2 tablespoons mayonnaise. Season with salt and pepper to your liking. Then, using the remaining 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise, brush one side of each slice of bread, and turn it. Put 1/4 cup chili cheese on 4 pieces of bread and top with the remaining 4 slices of bread, mayonnaise-spread sides facing up
  2. Heat the now-empty skillet over medium heat until it is hot. Cook the sandwiches (in batches if required) until golden brown and the cheese is beginning to flow out, about 2 to 3 minutes each side, or until the cheese is melted. Sandwiches should be placed on a cooling rack and let to rest for 2 minutes before cutting. Using a knife, cut in half and serve

It appears that not all pimento cheese recipes are created equal. I didn’t care for the cream cheese that was included in it at all. Additionally, the garlic did not seem to go in with the rest of the dish. I’ll keep experimenting with other recipes because this isn’t what I was expecting. More information can be found at

  1. It is not mayonnaise if it is not made by Duke’s!
  2. In this recipe, I left out the jalapenos and increased the cayenne a little bit since I prefer my pimento cheese to have a little bite to it.

Because canned pimento is so costly, I always make my own because it is so convenient.

Preparation

  1. Place the cheddar cheese in an equal layer at the bottom of a large mixing bowl. Spread the cream cheese, pimentos, mayonnaise, and chili flakes on top of the cheddar cheese and serve immediately. Stir in the pimento cheese with a spatula until it is smooth and spreadable, approximately 1 1/2 minutes. Placing the pimento cheese in a plastic container or dish and covering it securely can keep it fresh for many days in the refrigerator. Pimento cheese may be stored in the refrigerator for up to one week.

Pimento Cheese

Pimento cheese is one of my favorite foods. That’s right, I said it. The answer to the question “What is pimento cheese?” may come as a surprise to those who are not from the South. Pimento cheese is a typical Southern cheddar cheese and pimento pepper dish that has become popular in recent years. This pâté is lovingly known as “pâté du Sud,” which translates as “Southern pâté.” Creamy and cheesy, pimento cheese is also acidic, peppery, and spreadable (you can make it hot if you like). For those who enjoy cheddar cheese, pimento cheese is going to be their new favorite party dip and sandwich spread, according to Gourmet.

  1. I was a fussy eater back then, but at least I had the foresight to recognize the value of her pimento cheese at the time.
  2. This is occurring more regularly these days, which is a pleasant surprise.
  3. As I was getting lost in memories, I came upon my great-recipe aunt’s for Jell-o cucumber salad, but not Mimi’s pimento cheese.
  4. Let’s go to work on some!

What are pimento peppers?

Pigeon pea or pimento peppers are little red peppers that are not at all hot, and are used in a variety of dishes. On the grocery store shelves, they’re commonly referred to as cherry peppers when they’re sold fresh. Pimento peppers are even milder than red bell peppers in terms of heat. You may be familiar with them as the little red peppers that are packed into green olives. Please be assured that pimento cheese has absolutely nothing to do with pimento loaf if you’re from the Midwestern United States.

Pimento Cheese Ingredients

To make pimento cheese in its most basic form, combine cheddar cheese with pimento peppers and mayonnaise in a mixing bowl. Freshly prepared, homemade pimento cheese is considerably superior than store-bought alternatives in terms of flavor. Using high-quality products and preparing it at home, you may avoid the use of weird preservatives. Here’s everything you’ll need to get started.

Extra-Sharp Cheddar Cheese

Make sure to choose a great extra-sharp cheddar cheese so that the cheddar flavor may stand out above everything others.

Tillamook was the brand I used. Hand-grate your cheese using the big holes of a box grater to get a fine texture. Do not purchase pre-shredded cheese since it is covered in a powder that dulls the flavor and interferes with the creamy texture of the finished product.

Cream Cheese

Cheese is enhanced with cream cheese, which makes your pimento cheese tangy and spreadable while also enhancing the flavor of the cheddar. Although cream cheese is not required in all pimento cheese recipes, I find that it does not taste quite right without it. You can bet your bottom dollar that Mimi’s pimento cheese was created with cream cheese. According to the extensive history of pimento cheese at Serious Eats.com, cream cheese and pimentos have been friends for a long time, and they continue to be.

Pimento Peppers

Pimento peppers are an unavoidable ingredient. They impart a moderate pepper taste to the dip, as well as giving it its distinctive scarlet color. Make sure to rinse your peppers well, and if they come in slices rather than small pieces, give them a few more chops before using them. If you are unable to get pimento peppers, roasted red peppers make an excellent replacement. Chop them until you have a scant one-half cup of chopped vegetables. For my recipe experiments, I used canned peppers, but you could go the additional mile and roast your own peppers.

Mayonnaise

Mayonnaise adds a velvety texture as well as a distinct taste to dishes. If we didn’t use cream cheese, we’d make up for it by adding more mayonnaise, but I’ve discovered that a mix of the two produces the most delicious results. Duke’s brand of mayonnaise is the industry standard for pimento cheese in the South. Instead, I chose Sir Kensington’s, because that is the brand that I always have on hand.

A Few Simple Seasonings

The flavorings used in pimento cheese vary from recipe to recipe. A delicate and enticing savoriness is provided by a blend of garlic powder and onion powder. Because I enjoy my pimento cheese with a little of heat, I use cayenne pepper in my recipe as well. The heat is not overpowering, yet it keeps me coming back for more. Take it up a level by using fresh jalapenos, which provide a very fresh taste as well as a little crunch. A little goes a long way in this world. If you have a sensitivity to heat, you may reduce or delete both the cayenne pepper and the jalapeo pepper.

How to Make Pimento Cheese

Pimento cheese is really simple to prepare and can be completed in about 10 minutes. Essentially, all you have to do is whisk the ingredients together until they are well-combined. I use a hand mixer to combine the ingredients, which results in a beautiful, softly fluffy texture that is perfect for serving. Use caution while processing pimento cheese since it is ideal when the individual components keep some of their natural texture and flavor.

Here are a few typical ways to serve your meal:

Pimento Cheese Sandwiches

The only way to truly live is to eat a pimento grilled cheese sandwich on a regular basis. If you’re hosting a party, you may also go with tradition and serve pimento cheese between two slices of bread, split into tea sandwiches.

You may also use pimento cheese to make a more substantial sandwich by layering it on top of chopped cucumber (or dill pickles), tomato, sprouts or arugula, and/or a fried egg.

As a Dip or Spread

The combo of pimento cheese and crackers is a winning one. To lighten up your party spread, add large pieces of bell pepper (any color except green), cucumber, or celery to the mix, as seen below. Use pimento cheese as inspiration for your favorite cheddar recipes, and add pimento peppers to them for a unique twist. I can’t wait to include some into my favorite mac and cheese recipe. Notes

Recipe taken from AllRecipes.com and the Lee brothers through The New York Times*. Tip for cream cheese: If you’re like me and usually forget to take the cream cheese out of the fridge before you start cooking, simply cube it and place it in a microwave-safe mixing bowl. Heat it in the microwave for 15 to 30 seconds, just long enough to make it more flexible. We just require it to be warm enough to combine with the other ingredients, not hot enough to melt the cheese. * Pimento peppers may be found in the following places: Pimento peppers may be found in most well-stocked grocery shops, usually alongside the roasted red peppers and other peppers.

You won’t be able to tell the difference.

Cheese Paste Sandwich Spread.

The fact that you’re from the Caribbean and haven’t eaten a cheese paste sandwich for lunch means that your mother didn’t care about you. Just kidding, but almost everyone I talk to about cheese paste sandwiches has had one at some point in their lives and can see why. Regardless of the island they hail from. Back in the day, I recall that folks would also add a drop or two of food coloring to this great cheese spread to make the final sandwich seem even more appealing to the eye. Colors such as green, pink, yellow, and, in certain situations, blue are used.

Cheese paste is just a spiced-up cheese spread that is delicious smeared on sliced bread or cracked wheat crackers.

3 cups grated cheese (optional) (old cheddar) shredded carrots (about 2 tablespoons) 1 tablespoon mayonnaise1 tablespoon butter (soft)a dash of black pepper 1 tablespoon sour cream 1 tablespoon prepared mustard, grated 1/2 small onion, grated a sprinkle of spicy pepper sauce (hot sauce) Notes: If the mixture is not smooth after whisking, add a tablespoon or two of milk at a time.

  1. If you choose, you may use a variety of different cheeses to make your dish.
  2. You may also enhance the flavor of the dish by including some finely chopped pimento peppers (also known as seasoning pepper) in the mix.
  3. Then, in a large mixing bowl, combine all of the ingredients well to ensure that all of the tastes are fully incorporated and that the cheese paste has a nice creamy finish.
  4. one of my personal favorites!
  5. There will be enough here for around 6-8 sandwiches (depending on how thick you put it on).

Make sure it’s well wrapped in plastic wrap or stored in an airtight container. Check out the most recent culinary videos, connect with me on Twitter, and become a member of our Facebook community before you go. Oh, absolutely! Please leave a remark in the section below — it is really appreciated.

Cheese Spread

I’m taking advantage of the 7-hour trip back from a weekend break in Virginia by using the opportunity to make a little blog entry. I took the last week off from writing in order to spend the long holiday weekend with my family and go on a family vacation. We took a short journey up to Roanoke, Virginia, to visit my sister-in-law and to return her kid to her grandmother’s house for a few days. It was also a significant milestone for my 7-month-old son, who was experiencing his first vacation and road trip.

  • In fact, he was an absolute delight; much of his time was spent resting, staring out the window, and playing with his toys, and he appeared to be quite comfortable.
  • In terms of adult entertainment on the vacation, we ate in order to keep ourselves occupied.
  • And after we’d had enough of that, we went out for chicken dinner.
  • It goes without saying that the rest of our journey was no different.
  • Because the roads really looped around the mountains and meandered through the countryside, passing large fields and lovely cottages, the journey up was just breathtaking.
  • We made it safely to the park and spent the next several hours enjoying the lakeside scenery and the company of friends.
  • It will be a significant undertaking to go over everything.
  • It was prepared with a Guyanese cheese spread that I created myself from scratch.
  • I made my own version by combining cheddar, Dutch, and cream cheeses, as well as pepper and fresh garlic, to give it a little additional zing and flavor.
  • These were excellent for the trip and were a big hit!
  • A nice time with family and delicious cuisine is always guaranteed, and this past week had been filled with all of the above.

Cheese Spread – made with three different cheeses and perfect for dipping!

It’s the perfect party snack to serve with this three cheese spread! At football games, on New Year’s Eve, and just as an afternoon snack with the kids, I’ve had success with this recipe. It’s really simple! Have you ever seen those advertisements when the voiceover says, “Ahh, the power of cheese?” Well, I don’t want to come out as strange or anything, but. cheese! It has a lot of impact. The fact that everyone enjoys it (please don’t tell me if you don’t like cheese; I’d never be able to recover from the shock) makes it the ideal cuisine to offer at get-togethers and parties as well as funerals, wedding receptions, baby showers, and late-night television marathons.

Please say “hallelujah” and “amen.”

How to make Three Cheese Spread:

To begin, grate the cheddar and pepper jack cheeses together until finely grated. It’s possible to purchase pre-shredded cheese to make this preparation even quicker and easier. However, we have discovered that shredding the cheese manually results in a creamier cheese. You may now combine all of the ingredients in a large mixing dish. To combine all of these ingredients, use a large wooden spoon or a mixer to make it incredibly creamy. If you want to thin it out a bit more, you may add a little more milk.

On the occasion of my daughter’s fifth birthday, we served this recipe for the first time.

One of the photographs shows the birthday girl enjoying some snow.

And, yes, I am the sort of mother who believes snow to be a tasty and nutritious snack.

Some of that powdered ranch dip added in would probably be rather nice, I think. Replace the milk with beer to give it a more pronounced beer cheese flavor. Alternatively, a little amount of finely sliced jalapeño might be used for some extra heat. Alternatively, some cayenne pepper can be added if that’s more your style. Play with it, enjoy yourself with it, but most importantly, eat it.

Cheese Savoury Sandwich and Afternoon Tea at Home

This cheesy savoury dish provides a terrific filling for afternoon tea sandwiches and can be made ahead of time. This cheese savoury sandwich is a step up from the standard cheese sandwich and is simple to create while still being packed with flavor. The following post was written in collaboration with the website portmeirion. EVERYTHING I SAY, THINK, AND FEEL ARE MY OWN. The classic cheese sandwich is still the best all-around crowd-pleaser, and my recipe for a cheese savoury sandwich takes the basic offering to an altogether new level.

And it’s no surprise: it’s delicious on its own, but it’s much better when paired with ham, onion, pickle, and even marmite (see below).

My cheese savoury recipe, on the other hand, improves the typical cheese sarnie in a completely different way than any of these well-known versions.

This product is suitable for consumption at any time of the day, but it is certainly unique enough to be included in a spread of afternoon tea sandwiches.

The purpose of this piece is twofold. First and foremost, I would want to give this great cheese savoury dish. Second, I’d want to teach you more about the custom of afternoon tea and how you may hold your own tea party at home. Let’s get started right now.

Cheese Savoury Sandwich Ingredients

The cheese savoury sandwich, which has its origins in Northern England, is often made out of cheese, carrot, onion, and salad dressing. My version, on the other hand, is a little different. I’ve omitted the carrots and salad cream, and substituted red pepper and mayonnaise for those ingredients. With the addition of paprika and dijon mustard, the mayonnaise in my cheese savoury recipe has been transformed into an altogether more contemporary take on traditional sandwich filling. I’ve also incorporated two varieties of cheese – strong cheddar and Red Leicester – not only for their flavor, but also to give the dish a more visually appealing appearance.

How to make Cheese Savoury Filling

This recipe for a cheese savoury sandwich is incredibly simple to make:

  • In order to begin, start by finely slicing the red pepper and allowing it to drain on kitchen paper
  • After that, finely dice the salad onion. Combine mayonnaise, paprika, and dijon mustard in a mixing bowl. Finely grate the cheddar cheese and the Red Leicester cheese, then combine them in a large mixing basin (using your hands)
  • In order to begin, start by finely slicing the red pepper and allowing it to drain on kitchen paper. Salad onion should be finely diced next. Combination of paprika and dijon mustard with mayonnaise. In a large mixing basin, combine the cheddar and Red Leicester cheeses, tossing gently (with your hands).

The filling can be prepared ahead of time. Simply store in the refrigerator (with the lid on) until you’re ready to use it. Before using, give it a quick stir. The following steps should be followed when assembling the sandwiches:

  • Remove the bread’s crusts and set them aside. A liberal spoonful of the cheese-savory mixture should be placed onto one slice of bread. With a blunt knife, spread the mixture to the edges. Another slice of bread is placed on top. Cut the bread into pieces – each slice of my bread yielded enough bread for three sandwiches
  • Repeat the process with additional pieces of bread as needed.

Bread should have its crusts cut off. On one slice of bread, spread a large spoonful of the cheese savory filling; To finish, use a blunt knife to spread it to the edges. Another slice of bread is placed on top of that. To cut the bread into slices, I used a slice that yielded three sandwiches; As many slices of bread as you need to make a sandwich.

What is Afternoon Tea?

A distinctively British institution, afternoon tea revolves around a mid-afternoon snack of sandwiches, scones, and cake, all of which are accompanied by copious amounts of tea, as the name suggests. The “snack” is, in fact, quite a big portion. During the 18th century, the well-to-do were in the habit of just eating two big meals a day: breakfast and supper. Afternoon tea became popular during this time period. Later, at approximately 8 p.m., the later course was served. It goes without saying that people become hungry in between meals.

  • It’s a joke, but it’s true.
  • Instead, she began ordering a few snacks and a pot of tea in the afternoon to tide her over until dinner time.
  • She was definitely not a fool, and neither were those who followed her example and contributed to the widespread popularity of afternoon tea among the well-heeled.
  • Instead, it’s a highly sought-after dessert that’s only available on certain events and holidays.
  • Look for a decent hotel or tea parlor that has a proper afternoon tea service. There are other iconic alternatives in and around London, including Claridges, the Dorchester, the Ritz, and the Savoy. Alternatively, you may make something from scratch. This is unquestionably less expensive, and you may pass a few amusing hours making the many components of afternoon tea while saving money.

Seek out a decent hotel or tea shop that provides a proper afternoon tea service. Claridges, the Dorchester, the Ritz, and the Savoy are just a few of the traditional alternatives available in and around London. If you prefer something more handmade, that’s an option.

This is unquestionably less expensive, and you may pass a few amusing hours preparing the different components of afternoon tea while doing so.

Things you Will Need for Afternoon Tea

In the event that you decide to host your own afternoon tea for family or friends, beautiful china will go a long way toward helping you to create an attractive table befitting of all of the delectable treats that afternoon tea consists of. Three-tiered stands are commonly used at hotels and tea shops to exhibit sandwiches, scones, and cakes, although few residences are likely to have such a piece of equipment. Instead, get out your most beautiful dinnerware and start from there. My Botanic Blueset from Portmeirion is one of my favorite makeup products.

The following are the essentials you’ll need to pull off a sophisticated afternoon tea:

  • The following items: A teapot filled with freshly brewed loose leaf tea of your choice
  • There will be one teacup, saucer, and spoon for each individual, as well as a sandwich tray and other large serving plates. Each participant should have two side plates (one for savoury and one for sweet)

The following items are required: A teapot filled with freshly brewed loose leaf tea of your choice; a sandwich tray and a variety of large serving plates; teacups, saucers, and spoons (one for each individual); A serving of savoury and sweet side dishes is served to each individual. However, while it may appear that there is a lot of dinnerware for what is essentially finger food, carefully putting out the table sets the tone and lends an air of elegance and polish to the proceedings. Almost all of the items on this list are available in Portmeirion’s Botanic Bluerange, and the good news is that it is dishwasher safe, which makes cleaning up after an afternoon tea party a piece of cake.

For a trendy, bright, and vivid aesthetic, the Chelsea collection is another one of my personal favorites.

All that is left to do now is to organize the food.

Afternoon Tea Sandwich Ideas

First and first, if you want to give afternoon tea to children, it is a good idea to engage them in the process of picking the sandwiches to be served. This way, they will be certain that there will be at least one or two flavors that they enjoy and can tolerate. In fact, I compiled a shortlist of ten distinct ideas for afternoon tea sandwiches and asked each member of my family to choose their favorite from the list of ten. Per person, allow for 4 sandwiches, ideally with a new flavor each time, but ultimately, go with whatever would make your guests pleased!

To be honest, I really appreciate the color burst created by the mix-and-match technique.

  • Coronation chicken
  • Smoked salmon and cream cheese – served with rocket or watercress
  • Egg mayonnaisecress
  • Roast beef with horseradish
  • And a variety of other dishes. It’s hard to imagine anything more typically English than cucumber served with lashings of butter. BLT with pastrami pickle, crabavocado, and roasted red pepper pesto

A combination of white and brown bread is perfect for adding visual flair to a dish. Also, make sure to give yourself enough time to properly cook the sandwiches.

Those that have been crusted have been removed and sliced into delicate rectangles or triangles. When preparing afternoon tea sandwiches, my best advice is to prepare them as close to serving time as possible in order to guarantee that they are as fresh as they possibly can be.

How to Serve the Scones

Using a combination of white and brown bread will help to provide visual appeal. Also, make sure to give yourself enough time to properly cook the sandwich. That has been decrusted and sliced into delicate rectangles or triangles When preparing afternoon tea sandwiches, my best advice is to prepare them as close to serving time as possible in order to ensure that they are as fresh as possible. Try to make bread that is not overly sweet so that jam or honey can be served alongside to provide the necessary sweetness for the meal.

  1. In an ideal world, I would prefer plain scones, but if they contain fruit, I am okay with that as well.
  2. It is my personal opinion that jam and clotted cream should not be compromised.
  3. If you are unable to obtain clotted cream, whipped double cream can be substituted instead.
  4. I don’t care what flavor jam I use to accompany my scones; although strawberry and raspberry are both traditional choices, I don’t mind which flavor goes with my scones.

What Sweet Desserts to Include

The collection of tiny cakes, pastries, and sweets that are served after the savoury foods and scones constitutes a significant portion of any afternoon tea. They are, if you will, the climax of the story. Most of the time, two or three delicate delicacies are adequate to guarantee that guests leave the tea table with a full stomach and a pleased sleepy expression in their eyes. Rather than ordering a full-size dessert, I chose on two smaller options: a moderately sized vanilla, raspberry, and chocolateeclair with chopped pistachio nuts on top and a little glass of lemon posset with strained blackberry compote on top.

Other recipes for afternoon tea sweets to consider are as follows:

  • Little tiramisu
  • Danish pastries
  • Florentines
  • Mousse – try mychocolate mousseor a fruity alternative such as strawberry mousse
  • Viennese whirls
  • Macarons – try my delicateorange, thymesaffronvariety
  • Madeleines
  • Fruit tarts
  • Mille-feuilles
  • Mini tiramisu
  • Danish pastries

  • 75g Red Leicester cheese (or other strong red cheese)
  • 75g mature white cheddar cheese
  • 5tablespoon mayonnaise
  • 14teaspoon paprika (sweet and mild)
  • 14teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 18teaspoon black pepperground
  • 14Small red pepper
  • 2Salad onions
  • 11 slices bread (white or brown)
  • 75g Red Leicester cheese (or other strong red cheese)

Make the Cheese Savoury Filling

  • In order to begin, start by finely slicing the red pepper and allowing it to drain on kitchen paper
  • After that, finely dice the salad onion. Combine mayonnaise, paprika, and dijon mustard in a mixing bowl. Use your hands to throw the cheddar and Red Leicester cheese together in a large mixing basin – this is the easiest way to do it. Continue to mix with your hands after adding in the pepperoni
  • Finally, using a metal spoon, gently whisk in the mayonnaise. Cover and place in the refrigerator until ready to use.

Make the Sandwiches

  • Remove the bread’s crusts and set them aside. We will only make one sandwich from one of the slices of bread, so we will cut it in half on one of the slices. 5 of the full-sized slices of bread, as well as one of the smaller pieces of bread, should be laid out
  • Stir the filling momentarily before spooning a fair quantity over each piece of bread that has been placed out and spreading it out with a dull knife
  • Each slice of bread should be topped with another piece of bread of similar size. Cut into pieces – my bread allowed for three sandwiches to be made from each large piece of bread and only one sandwich from each smaller sandwich (I used whole wheat bread). You should make a total of 16 mini sandwiches in total. Serve as soon as possible (within an hour to avoid the bread drying out) after covering with plastic wrap until ready to serve.
  • It is estimated that this recipe will provide roughly 16 little sandwiches, each measuring approximately 3cm broad by 8cm long. I used a standard-sized loaf of sliced bread. You should be prepared to increase/decrease the number of pieces of bread required to make the desired number of sandwiches if you have small/large slices of bread. It’s also possible to use the filling to create 4 ordinary sandwiches (without cutting off their crusts)
  • I didn’t butter the bread since I felt that the creamy filling didn’t call for any additional fat. However, if you prefer buttered sandwiches, feel free to indulge. The filling can be prepared up to 24 hours ahead of time and kept in the refrigerator. Before using, give it a good swirl to incorporate any moisture that has drained out of the peppers. Sandwiches that have been prepared do not have a lengthy shelf life. They may be covered in clingfilm and stored in the refrigerator for many hours, although they are best eaten immediately after preparation. Please don’t leave them hanging out in the sun for an extended period of time since the bread will quickly dry up.
