Arby’s Crispy Fish Sandwich Review

Fatty fish sandwiches are among my favorite fast-food alternatives because they are satisfying and savory, and they are somewhat more nutritious than burgers. Some franchisees serve fish all year long, while others only serve fish for a certain period of time each year, depending on the location. Served with a big Alaskan pollock filet, Arby’s Crispy Fish Sandwiches are not too “fishy,” thanks to the mild flavor of the Alaskan pollock filet. It’s a terrific lunch choice for when you’re on the run because it’s freshly fried.

History and Inspiration

While Arby’s is most known for their roast beef, the firm is on a mission to prove that they can do more than that. In 2001, Arby’s released their fish sandwich, which was only available in some locations for a brief period. Following a successful comeback of the fish sandwich later that year along with their new Fish n’ Cheddar sandwich, it is now available during the seafood season as well as the Lenten season. Given that many Catholics (and non-Catholics) observe Lent by abstaining from meat for 40 days, Arby’s promotes its Fish Sandwich as a Lent-friendly choice.

Through the use of a fish filet that is bigger than the bun and delicious tastes, Arby’s believes that its consumers will consider its fish sandwich to be a step up from regular fish sandwiches.

Types of Arby’s Fish Sandwich

Fish sandwich options at Arby’s include the Crispy Fish Sandwich, Fish N’ Cheddar, and the King’s Hawaiian Fish Deluxe Sandwich, which are all available for a limited time only. The Crispy Fish Sandwich is made out of a crispy Alaskan pollock fillet, shredded iceberg lettuce, and tartar sauce served on a sesame seed bun with tartar sauce on the side. TheFish n’ Cheddar Sandwichis the same as the Fish n’ Cheddar Sandwich, except it includes cheddar cheese sauce to go with the tartar sauce. Served on a toasted King’s Hawaiian bread, the King’s Hawaiian Fish Deluxe features the same crispy fish filet as the original, along with cheddar cheese, shredded iceberg lettuce, diced tomatoes, and tartar sauce.

Arby’s Crispy Fish Sandwich Review

Fish sandwich choices at Arby’s include the Crispy Fish Sandwich, Fish N’ Cheddar, and the King’s Hawaiian Fish Deluxe Sandwich, all of which are available for a limited time period only. The Crispy Fish Sandwich is made out of a crispy Alaskan pollock fillet, shredded iceberg lettuce, and tartar sauce served on a sesame seed bun with a side of ranch dressing. In theFish n’ Cheddar Sandwich, the fish and cheddar cheese are the same, but the cheddar cheese sauce is served alongside the tartar sauce instead of on the side.

The purpose of this essay is to examine the flavor and texture of the traditional Crispy Fish Sandwich.

1.Taste and Texture

The size of the sandwich is the first thing that attracts my eye when I look at it. Despite the fact that the buns are fresh and fluffy, the Alaskan pollock fish filet is significantly larger than the bun. It’s both thick and broad, providing you the immediate gratification of knowing you’re getting a good deal on your purchase. The fish has a natural fragrance and taste, and it flakes off with each mouthful. Arby’s employs abeer batter for its fish, which results in a light and crispy coating – as opposed to other restaurants that use a standard bread crumb or flour breading – which provides for a lighter and crispier coating.

Overall, it’s a good sandwich that distinguishes it from other fast-food franchises on the market.

2.Are they healthy?

The breading and the sauce on this fish sandwich may give the impression that it is a better alternative than some other fast food options, however the nutritional value of this sandwich is somewhat doubtful. There are 570 calories in the Crispy Fish, along with 25 grams of fat and 65 grams of carbohydrates. You could make this dish a little healthier by omitting the sauce or even serving the fish without the bun, but that wouldn’t be nearly as satisfying as it is now.

3.Are they Worth it?

In a fast-food establishment, Arby’s Crispy Fish Sandwich is a great option if you’re seeking for anything other than beef. It’s full and delicious, and it has just the proper amount of sharpness to it as you bite into it. If the fish is cooked and served hot, I think it’s well worth the extra effort to include fresh shredded lettuce and tartar sauce to complement the tastes of the fish.

Final Verdict

My favorite aspect of the fish sandwich is that it is only available during specific months of the year, ensuring that the fish is fresh and in season. I also appreciate the fact that we can anticipate seeing it on the menu at around the same time every year. It’s a clever method for Arby’s to accommodate its consumers during Lent, and at $2.99, it’s a decently priced option.

Arby’s Fish Sandwich [Review]

In the world of fast food, it’s no secret that fish sandwiches are a last-minute addition. While most restaurants don’t even bother wasting menu or freezer space when it isn’t Lent—the time of year when Catholics and non-Catholics alike will eat fish sandwiches from almost anywhere (firehouses, school gyms, doctors’ offices, barber shops), Arby’s has decided to get a month and a half ahead of the competition by introducing their take on the no frills sandwich a month and a half early. Everything about fried fish sandwiches starts off with the same ingredients: breaded fried fish and tartar sauce.

  • Arby’s keeps things simple and affordable by choosing simply lettuce as an ingredient among the available selections.
  • It was far more filling than McDonald’s Fillet-o-fish, which contains a small, perfectly square patty on the inside.
  • Their fillet was actually rather plump and did not have a mushy taste to it at all.
  • As is often the case, the lettuce on this sandwich is substandard, which is a major disappointment.
  • My sandwich also had a distinct fried flavor to it, but I’m sure this isn’t true of all of the sandwiches.
  • Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to uncover any promotional material that specifies what species of fish this is, which is really concerning.
  • According to them, their cod was 100 percent north pacific in origin.
  • Because fast food fish is notoriously foul-smelling, I’d argue that Arby’s fish sandwich is the best of the big fast food fish sandwiches on the market.

In spite of this, going to your neighborhood nail salon for a fish fry sandwich during the Lenten season is not a cause to forgo your favorite meal at this time. Sandwich made with fish at Arby’s

The Worst Fast-Food Fish Sandwiches — Eat This Not That

The fast-food fish sandwich is usually a popular topic of conversation. People tend to have strong feelings about these menu options—either they adore them or they don’t care much for them and have no desire to try them in the near future. However, during the 40-day period of Lent, fast-food fish sandwiches elicit a lot of conversation among customers and see an increase in popularity. As a result, we decided to take a closer look at the current possibilities and determine which fish sandwich is the worst of the lot, and which you would be better off missing altogether.

  • The idea that picking a fish-based entrée is healthier than a burger is appealing, but this is not always the case.
  • Thanks to the generosity of White Castle is a restaurant in the United Kingdom.
  • What distinguishes White Castle’s version on the fish sandwich from others?
  • As you’re no doubt aware, White Castle’s burgers and sandwiches are served as sliders, which means they’re significantly smaller than the typical alternatives available at other fast-food places.
  • Keep in mind that it’s still heavy in fat and saturated fat, so just eat one of these at a time if you want to be healthy.
  • On the whole, this sandwich isn’t that horrible when compared to the alternatives.
  • Just one of these sandwiches has less than half the amount of salty goodness that you would receive from a Quarter Pounder with Cheese.

A serving has 410 calories, 19 g fat (2.5 g saturated fat, 0 g trans fat), 900 mg sodium, 69 g carbohydrates (2 g fiber, 4 g sugar), and 34 g protein.

Customer satisfaction is predicted to be high “This sandwich will have you hooked, line, and sinker.

That is excessive, since the American Heart Association advises that the typical adult consume no more than 2,300 milligrams of caffeine per day, with the goal of eventually reaching an optimal limit of no more than 1,500 milligrams per day in the near future.

Thanks to Arby’s for their assistance.

The wild-caught Alaskan Pollock sandwich from Arby’s is advertised as “crispy-fried to golden-brown perfection,” and it is available for purchase online.

It includes more than 900 mg of salt, which makes this sandwich a good example.

Are you looking for further advice?

Burger King and Twitter are two examples.

The same can be said about the Big Fish Sandwich, which is available here.

The following nutritional information is provided by Wendy’s:530 calories, 26 grams of fat (6 grams saturated fat, 0 grams trans fat), 1,190 mg sodium, 51 grams of carbohydrates (2 grams fiber, 5 grams sugar), and 22 grams of protein As you’ve probably observed by now, the majority of these fast-food fish sandwiches are essentially the same: fish that has been breaded and fried is covered with tartar sauce, pickles, lettuce, and cheese before being devoured by customers.

  • After everything was said and done, Wendy’s really went ahead and revised their fish menu in 2021.
  • Nonetheless, as compared to the other sandwiches, this one contains a significant amount of salt.
  • Popeyes has only recently joined the fish sandwich market in 2021, and the Cajun Flounder Fish Fillet has received overwhelmingly positive feedback based on its flavor.
  • As a result, it is one of the fast-food fish sandwich alternatives with the highest calorie count.
  • 600 calories, 34 g fat (10 g saturated fat, 0.5 g trans fat), 1,000 mg sodium, 74 g carbohydrates (2 g fiber, 19 g sugar), 25 grams protein While making the King’s Hawaiian Fish Deluxe sandwich, Arby’s went above and above, and not in a positive manner.
  • However, while this premium sandwich appears to be delectable, it has roughly 700 calories and as much salt as you would receive from eating 10 pretzel rods.

It is not only heavy in fat, but it also contains trans fats, which are harmful to the heart. Obviously, this is the one you’ll want to stay away from ordering!

Arby’s starts a turf war with McDonald’s over fish sandwiches before Lent season

  • It’s got the flesh, but it’s getting further out into the surf. The opening salvo in a high-stakes war over who has the finest fish sandwich was launched Sunday by Arby’s, following up on last year’s Chicken Sandwich War and just before Lent. Welcoming you to the Fish Sandwich War of the year 2020! McDonald’s Filet-O-Fish is the target of a prank by the business known for its roast beef sandwiches. In conjunction with its limited-time Crispy Fish Sandwich and new Fish n’ Cheddar Sandwich, Arby’s officials revealed exclusively to USA TODAY a new campaign connected to the limited-time Crispy Fish Sandwich and the new Fish n’ Cheddar Sandwich. “Fish is meat, too
  • It’s just ocean meat,” Deborah von Kutzleben, Arby’s vice president of advertising, content, and the company’s core menu, said in an interview. The time has come for a fresh strategy, to truly make people question Filet-O-Fish – and whether or not it is the greatest – and to give them a chance to sample ours, says the team. Season of the Shamrock Shake: This is the time of year when you can obtain McDonald’s legendary mint shake with the new Oreo cookie. Shamrock McFlurry is a fictional character created by author Shamrock McFlurry. Notice of a freebie: Chipotle introduces ‘Guacamole Mode,’ in which they give away free guacamole. Here’s how to get your hands on it. For a company like McDonald’s, those are combative words. The Arby’s advertising campaign does not end there. In a series of advertisements that will air on television and social media starting Sunday, Arby’s makes fun of the size and square form of McDonald’s fish sandwich. Arby’s advises customers in a short YouTube advertisement that was provided with USA TODAY in advance: “Put an end to your Filet-O-Fishes consumption. Arby’s Crispy Fishes are a must-have.” For attention-getting purposes, fast-food restaurants frequently troll the competition on social media and in their special promos. When Popeyes first introduced its New Orleans-style chicken sandwich in August, the brand ignited an online frenzy with Chick-fil-A and other food establishments to promote the dish on social media. The Chicken Sandwich War was rapidly called as a result of this. Burger King’s viral Whopper Detour promotion, which lasted in December 2018, provided penny Whoppers to app users who were near a McDonald’s location before redirecting them to a Burger King. As a result of consumer complaints over the Filet-O-Fish on Twitter, Arby’s has begun to secretly target McDonald’s, giving a free Arby’s sandwich to put things right. On February 12, the Arby’s Guest Support account reacted to a customer who complained that the fish patty had been left out of his sandwich. “We at Arby’s are deeply sorry about this issue, and we are committed to finding a solution as soon as possible. Would you mind giving us a (direct message) if you don’t mind? A fish sandwich from our menu is what we would like to present to you.” Select Arby’s restaurants in close proximity to McDonald’s restaurants will put unique inscriptions to their outdoor signage to imply that the emoji with the cowboy hat and fish is preferable to the fish with a clown-like symbol that mimics McDonald’s mascot Ronald McDonald is preferable. Alec, please don’t do that. We at Arby’s are deeply sorry about this issue, and we are committed to finding a solution as soon as possible. Would you mind giving us a direct message? A fish sandwich from our menu is what we would like to present to you. — Arby’s Guest Support (@ArbysCares) Twitter account The date is February 12, 2020. Unlike Arby’s and other restaurants that add seasonal seafood choices to their menus during Lent, a period when many Catholics abstain from meat, McDonald’s sandwiches are offered all year at all of the company’s locations in the United States. This year’s Lenten Season will take place from February 26 to April 11. The Filet-O-Fish was the first item to be added to McDonald’s original menu in 1965, and it was the only non-hamburger option available at the time. According to McDonald’s, it is one of the most popular menu items, particularly on Fridays leading up to Easter. According to the firm, Arby’s fish sandwiches were first served in 2001 in a limited number of locations. Late December saw the reintroduction of the dish, which was served with a cheddar cheese sauce on top of fried Alaskan pollock fillets, for a short time only. The fact that “it is actually something that we hear our visitors appreciate us for,” said von Kutzleben, is the reason why they bring it back year after year. “We’re really thrilled to inform Filet-O-Fish fans that Arby’s fish sandwiches are something they should certainly try,” said the team behind the campaign. In order to finish the sandwich, tarter sauce should be spread on both the top and bottom buns, depending on preference. Pickles, tomatoes, and shredded lettuce are also included in the price of each sandwich. Every one of these ingredients is placed between two pieces of brioche bread. All of this comes together to create a delectable sandwich that is not often found at many fast food outlets. It is the newest addition to Arby’s limited-time menu, which includes beer-battered fish. Please feel free to combine it with additional limited-time products such as the sweet potato waffle fries and your choice of a Coke or a Barq’s Root Beer float to complete the experience.

We tried fried-fish sandwiches from every major fast-food chain — and the winner is clear

  • This week marks the beginning of Lent, a Catholic tradition during which many people refrain from eating meat on Fridays. Fast-food restaurants only have a limited number of non-meat alternatives – yet fish sandwiches are frequently the most popular choice among onlookers, so we examined the fishwiches offered by numerous establishments. Unsurprisingly, the most of them were disgusting, but a select handful managed to surprise us

From the Norse braving the icy northern seas to Columbusaimlessly bumbling into the Caribbean, the ocean has struck fearand trepidation in the heart of man.A similar feeling of hesitation often accompanies something elsefrom the sea: fast-food fish sandwiches.McDonald’s Filet-O-Fish –created for Catholicsabstaining from meat on Fridays duringLent – started the trend in 1962. Since then, most fast-foodchains have introduced a Lent-approved fish sandwich. But are they any good? “Fast-food fish” doesn’t sound seaworthyon paper. We decided to taste test fish sandwiches from sevenmajor chains to find out which fishwiches fill our sails, andwhich ones deserve a keelhauling.

Ah, the beautiful bounty of the sea: Arby’s, Burger King, Dairy Queen, McDonald’s, Popeyes, Wendy’s, and White Castle, fresh from the nets.

Arby’s Wants To Pay For Your Fish Sandwich. Here’s Why

Arby’s Arby’s declared over the weekend that they would be taking an extreme move to compensate all of its customers who have ever been dissatisfied with a fish sandwich they had purchased. People who had heard about their newly introduced Crispy Fish Sandwich but had not yet purchased the Filet-O-Fish had an opportunity to do so during this promotion. The reason for this decision was detailed in an advertisement that ran duringSaturday Night Live and that you can view onYouTube. They chose to issue a $3.79 check to everyone who orders a Filet-O-Fish at any time of day.

The next day, according to a breathlessly reported press release, it took less than an hour for Arby’s to deliver all of their checks, despite 300,000 guests queued up while theSNLepisode was still airing on television.

The site also continues to tease McDonald’s by displaying a reCAPTCHA imagery that includes both the Arby’s sandwich and the Filet-O-Fish, with the directions to click all of the squares that depict the meal that appears to be the most filled of the two.

There is still time to enter for the ultimate prize until March 12.

Arby’s continues to troll McDonald’s

Arby’s Continuing Arby’s attempt to make the most of their limited-time fish offers atMcDonald’s cost, these fish sandwich cheques are being distributed to customers. Inspire Stories, Arby’s public relations agency, explains that through March 29, you may choose between ordering the Crispy Fish Sandwich for $2.99 or the King’s Hawaiian Fish Deluxe for $3.99. Both of these sandwiches are made with Alaskan Pollock, tartar sauce, iceberg lettuce, and a sesame bread, respectively. While the former has the same ingredients as the latter, it additionally includes tomatoes, cheddar, and a particularly sweet and fluffy King’s Hawaiian Bun.

Using this message, they went to Twitter and joined the sea shanty TikTok group.

However, he acknowledges that the Filet-O-Fish “is also somewhat of a marvel, at least in a ‘Invasion of the Body Snatchers’ pod people sort of manner,” indicating that Arby’s message has already been picked up by those who agree with him.

The Best Fast Food Fish Sandwiches, Ranked

Maggie Rossetti created this illustration for Thrillist. Thank you for visiting The Fasties, Thrillist’s second-annual fast food awards! Several categories, ranging from Greatest Chicken Nuggets to Best Bacon Cheeseburgers and many more, are included in the awards, which honor all of the best items that have come out of drive-thru windows over the course of the previous year. Take a look at the whole awards event, as well as the complete list of categories and winners. There has been a renaissance in the fried chicken sandwich, and it has not been a brief one.

  1. In addition, although we’re certainly on board (please keep the fried chicken sandwiches coming!
  2. Just in case you haven’t noticed, there’s a whole other category of fast food brilliance that merits our admiration: the fish sandwich.
  3. There are some newcomers, such as the Popeyes Cajun Flounder Sandwich, as well as some stalwarts that bring back memories, such as the McDonald’s Filet-O-Fish.
  4. Ordering a fish sandwich may be a special event, so we want to make sure that every time you do, it’s a pleasant one.

11. Carl’s Jr./Hardee’s: Beer Battered Fish Sandwich

The return of beloved menu items at fast food restaurants is usually cause for celebration (and a lot of commercials, if you’re Taco Bell and those Nacho Fries) among the customer base. However, when Carl’s Jr./Hardee’s announced in February 2021 that the beer-battered fish sandwich would be returning, we’re not sure there was much of a reason to be excited about the announcement. This is due to the fact that the sandwich tastes as if it has been sitting in the back of a freezer since the last time the chain offered it for sale.

It should be returned to the water.

10. McDonald’s: Filet-O-Fish

The Filet-O-Fish sandwich from McDonald’s is the iconic fast food fish sandwich. It’s a well-known symbol. This is a classic. It’s also a little disappointing, given the fact that it’s a fast food institution. Despite the fact that it’s a little strange, we’re not completely opposed to slapping some cheese on top of a fish sandwich. In the case of the Filet-O-Fish, on the other hand, the slice of American is overbearing to the point where we question whether McDonald’s is merely using it to mask the flavor of the fish.

That’s understandable.

The lack of crispiness in the breading, on the other hand, is what ultimately brings this ship down.

There’s nothing on this sandwich that gives it a satisfying crunch to it. Order it only for the nostalgic value. Order it if you want to experience a fast food classic. It was ordered out of need. However, if you’re searching for a genuinely outstanding fish sandwich, avoid ordering it.

9. Burger King: Big Fish Sandwich

The pickle may make or break a sandwich, as we’ve stated previously and will reiterate: pickles are essential. In the instance of Burger King’s Big Fish Sandwich, the pickles really add to the overall flavor of the sandwich. On a toasted brioche bun, a breaded White Alaskan Pollock filet is topped with tartar sauce, zesty crinkle-cut pickles, and a little lettuce, and the whole thing is wrapped in a brioche bun. BK’s seafood selection is elevated by the addition of these toppings. The King’s ample smear of tartar sauce, which hits all of the perfect notes in the bites with the pickles and, of course, the buttery brioche bun, is a personal favorite of ours.

So it’s no surprise that this sandwich is served with pickles by the chain.

8. White Castle: Panko Breaded Fish Slider

You may satisfy your craving for fried fish without having to consume an entire sandwich by ordering the Panko Breaded Breaded Fish Slider from White Castle & Grille. There are just three ingredients in this fish sandwich: a slider-sized piece of panko-breaded Alaskan Pollock, a slice of American cheese, and a steamed bun. This is the tiniest and most straightforward fish sandwich on our list. That’s all there is to it. So even the tartar sauce, which is a common component of most fish sandwiches, is served in a separate package (so make sure they provide a packet or two with your order).

The American cheese provides a necessary saltiness to the dish.

7. Arby’s: Crispy Fish Sandwich

Arby’s is well aware that it is superior to McDonald’s. So much so that the fast food sandwich restaurant has a long history of teasing its competition with prank calls. They’re not bluffing, but they’re also not lying. It’s undoubtedly one of the largest fish we’ve seen so far on our journey, as shown by the golden-brown color of the wild-caught Alaskan Pollock that comes topped with tartar sauce, iceberg lettuce, and a sesame seed bun. Compared to its competitors, it is thicker and crispier, and, as a big plus, it is shaped more like a fish filet.

Arby’s is definitely counting on the size of this sandwich to attract people who are looking for fish sandwiches, and it could just be on to something.

6. Checkers: Crispy Fish Sandwich

The Crispy Fish Sandwich at Checkers is a safe bet, much like a lot of the other options on the menu. However, while it lacks that extra something that would allow it to crack the top five of this ranking, it does contain everything you could want in a fish sandwich that can be made quickly and inexpensively: a crispy, delightfully greasy piece of fried fish with a delicate fish flavor that will please everyone and plenty of tartar sauce to make for perfectly balanced bites from beginning to end.

Checkers manages to do what a lot of other chains are unable to do while being a small fish in a very large pond, according to the company. Maggie Rossetti created this illustration for Thrillist.

5. Culver’s: North Atlantic Cod Filet Sandwich

Lobsters are not something you’ll see on the menu at a diner. In addition to not serving lobster, Culver’s has a huge menu for a fast food restaurant, and they do sell butterfly giant shrimp, which are popular in the Caribbean. A fast food establishment that specializes in burgers and shakes at its heart, but is also confident enough to serve out cheese curds and giant shrimp when the occasion calls for it. If you’ve ever visited a Culver’s, you know for a certainty that the chain manages to pull it off with ease and confidence.

  1. In principle, having a bun that is long enough to accommodate a lengthy filet should be a tremendous advantage.
  2. After that, however, things get substantially better, with a substantial chunk of fresh, crispy, light cod that would never pass for a fast-food fish patty on the rest of the sandwich.
  3. ), and a sense of creaminess thanks to the shredded cheese.
  4. It’s just surprising that there isn’t a lobster feast on the schedule.

4. Jack in the Box: Fish Sandwich

As seen by menu items such as Sauced and Loaded Fries, which raises the question, “What if someone made poutine, but instead of gravy and cheese curds used numerous cheese sauces, bacon, jalapeo, and absolutely no shame?” Jack in the Box is known for pushing the boundaries. In that case, you’d expect a fish sandwich from Jack in the Box to have exotic ingredients like pepper jack tartar sauce or CBD-infused pollock or something (just so you know, none of these things are actually real. yet.) Even though it was a simple dish with a generic name, the Fish Sandwich managed to make it onto the menu somehow.

  1. Fast food restaurants do not often market their food in terms of sustainability since their food is frequently not sustainable.
  2. And it’s encouraging to see.
  3. A well-constructed sandwich has a patty that is exceptionally crispy.
  4. We’ll give the wilted shredded lettuce a pass because fast food restaurants don’t exactly have a stellar reputation when it comes to serving up fresh produce.

It’s so easy and tasty that you won’t even need to smother it in 14 different cheese sauces to enjoy it fully. Maggie Rossetti created this illustration for Thrillist.

3. Whataburger: Whatacatch

Every time we go to a fast food restaurant, the only option on the menu is a fish sandwich. It’s a nightmare that we have every time this happens. To be honest, does anyone really go out of their way to get their hands on some fried Nemo on a bun unless it’s Lent, they’ve been dared by a buddy, or the sandwich somehow landed up in their bag by accident? The Whatacatch sandwich, on the other hand, has undoubtedly shifted our perspective (if only somewhat) on portable fish dinners. What it all comes down to is a Whataburger Jr.

While the fish itself is moist and soft, the batter is crispy and flavorful, with just the proper amount of spice.

Furthermore, the freshness of the lettuce and tomato elevates the entire attempt to the point that we could consider ordering it on purpose the next time.

2. Long John Silver’s: Wild Alaska Pollock Sandwich

Why does a major fast food restaurant have less than 10,000 Instagram followers while being a household name? It probably makes more sense if you know that the chain in question belongs to Long John Silver. After it was sold to an investment group in 2011 by the Yum! Brands family (which includes Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, and KFC), its prospects for survival as a viable brand were not promising. However, things have improved since then, as seen by the remodeling of storefronts and the increase in sales.

Grilled salmon and shrimp have been added to the menu, which includes the typical range of fried fish, such as the Wild Alaska Pollock Sandwich.

The other components of the sandwich are also noteworthy: a fluffy bread, sour crinkle-cut pickles for a little of additional crunch, and a generous quantity of tartar sauce for an unexpected, but welcome, layer of flavor on top of the burger.

Despite the fact that wild pollock is also available at Jack in the Box, the breading here isn’t the conventional panko or breadcrumbs; instead, it’s a flour batter that’s more frequently seen in a traditional order of fish and chips.

In fact, if you pulled the pollock out of the sandwich and tossed it into a bowl of fish and chips, it wouldn’t seem out of place at all! It’s so good, in fact, that it almost feels out of place at a fast food restaurant. Illustration by Maggie Rossetti for Thrillist

1. Popeyes: Cajun Flounder Sandwich

The sensationalPopeye’s Chicken Sandwichwill continue to serve as the gold-brown standard by which all current and future menu products will be assessed for the foreseeable future, regardless of whether Popeyes likes it or not. When the Cajun Flounder Sandwich, the first fish sandwich offered by the Louisiana-style company, was debuted in early 2021, it was met with great expectations, which was understandable. While we recognize that chicken and fish are in completely different categories, we admit that we were skeptical about whether the fish sandwich would be on par with the chicken sandwich when we went to taste it.

  • It’s a really good fish sandwich, to be honest.
  • It’s not difficult to understand why.
  • Popeyes did a good job of positioning itself for success by including those elements into this sandwich, and fortunately, they don’t have to carry the rest of the ingredients.
  • Certainly, it’s a crowd-pleasing choice of fish on its own, but the restaurant chain takes it to the next level by coating it in a crispy breading that’s filled with spicy cajun flavour.
  • The traditional tartar sauce, on the other hand, works in tandem with the pickles to provide sharpness and acid to help balance out the fattiness of the fish.
  • You may place an order without any reservations.
  • It’s almost unjust that the Cajun Flounder will forever be associated with the Popeyes Chicken Sandwich, but if it weren’t for the latter, the former would almost certainly not have existed.

Arby’s brings back two Fish Sandwich specials

One of the joys of an otherwise dismal 2020 was the Beer Battered Fish Sandwich from Arby’s, which was a combination of deliciously crispy fried fish and zesty toppings. Similarly, Arby’s is kicking off the new year by bringing back two of their seasonal seafood favorites: salmon and cod.

REVIEW: Arby’s Fish ‘N Cheddar Sandwich

In the words of the new Arby’s Fish ‘N Cheddar Sandwich wrapper, “WE HAVE THE FISH.” It appears that it does, because Arby’s is offering THREE limited-time fish sandwich options: the Crispy Fish Sandwich (crispy fish, tartar sauce, lettuce, sesame seed bun), Fish N’ Cheddar (crispy fish, cheddar cheese sauce, tartar sauce, lettuce, sesame seed bun), and the King’s Hawaiian Fish Deluxe Sandwich (crispy fish, cheddar cheese sauce, tartar sauce, lettuce, tomatoes on a King’s Hawaiian bun).

The Crispy Fish and the King’s Hawaiian Fish Deluxe have both previously appeared on the menu, however the Fish N’ Cheddar has not.

It’s essentially a crispy fish sandwich with a cheddar cheese sauce on the side, as described above.

As someone who grew up in Indiana and had the pleasure of eating a Pork Tenderloin sandwich, which is famous for the meat obstructing the bun, I can understand what you are saying.

How is it?

Obviously, if the meat is going to dwarf the bread, it had better be really tasty. Unfortunately, in this instance, the fish was not so lucky. Even though the flavor was good, the texture was a major letdown. To be fair, it wasn’t like taking a soggy, wet sleep, but it lacked the desired deep-fried crispness that many people like. They were, in my opinion, far too generous with the breading-to-fish proportions. I wouldn’t have been unhappy if Arby’s had scrimped a little on the breading to give it a little more substance in order to get a wonderful, crispy finish.

It is my opinion, despite the fact that it produces a more desirable melted texture than a cube of American cheese, that the flavor of the cheese does not suit the other components of the sandwich,

Is there anything else you need to know?

‘Fish ‘n’ Cheddar’ is a type of sandwich (left) Filet-O-Fish (Fillet-O-Fish) (right) I had this with a McDonald’s Filet-O-Fish sandwich for lunch. Despite the fact that Arby’s product was larger, did not come smothered in tartar sauce, and did not include iceberg lettuce or cheddar sauce, these variations did not provide it a significant advantage over the Filet-O-Fish and were not worth the extra couple of dollars.

Conclusion:

I’d choose the Filet-O-Fish over this any day of the week. It is possible that Arby’s may bring back their Nashville Hot Fish Sandwich, in which case I may consider using it as my fast food fish fix. The McDonald’s traditional, on the other hand, is my favorite when it comes to a basic fried fish sandwich.
